I'm not friends with a SINGLE person from my work. I just got a Facebook friend request from a coworker, we have mutual friends from college and he must have seen something I posted. My old job I had lots of people on social media but I'm hesitant even though I don't say anything on social media that would ever compromise things...I don't know.
So what about you guys? Are you friends with coworkers?

Just a couple of the girls. None of our bosses. Although my manager followed me on twitter.. blah! I have one girl on IG, but we are really close!

@Mrs. Champagne: yeah my boss and I actually talked about it and she said she didn't even want me on social media bc she doesn't want me to feel weird. Thank goodness!

This is why I am not going back to Facebook. I manage a dozen twenty something's, and I don't want them to snoop my life, and I really don't want to know what they're up to on days off. Or on the job!
Would it be weird to just not acknowledge the request? And maybe this person will take the hint?

If I had Facebook I would friend my supervisor and coworkers. We are a super close team. There were many past jobs where I very intentionally kept work and personal separate

Nope nope nope! And a few of them are butt hurt about it, because I'm the only one who doesn't participate, and they think I'm being unfriendly. So weird.

Not my boss or my former bosses. Only my closest coworkers (one of whom I knew before we worked together). But my bosses spouse added me, and that's kind of weird. Luckily, I post almost nothing...

I am friends with many of my coworkers and some supervisor people. It all depends on your personal relationships with them. We are a pretty tight knit team.
ETA: I rarely post things, either.

I am FB friends with two people at work but only because we associate outside of the office; otherwise my policy is not to FB friend coworkers.

No way. I learned a long time ago not to get personal at work. However, for this reason and others I do not engage in social media. It causes unnecessary complications!

Yes, I am. Our whole office is connected on Fb, including managers.. But we run a website and tend to encourage being involved on social media sites.

Yes to most of my coworkers. No to my boss and older coworker. Most of my coworkers have my boss on FB but that's crossing a line to me.

I block all my bosses and tell them I am not on Facebook. Only those I am friends with outside work are on my Facebook.

@JennyD: Exactly this. I manage 40 people, most of whom are in their 20s and I draw a firm line in the sand about keeping professional and personal lives separate. Some of our staff just learned that lesson the hard way and I hope they take it to heart. I love the staff but nothing good comes from me knowing what they're up to in their off time, or while at work!

Yep, I'm friends with coworkers as well as my direct manager. I'm not an oversharer though - I've always had a policy not to post things online if it's not something I'd want my boss to see. Things like that have a way of getting around, regardless of whether you're connected on a social network or not.

@jessibear: Wow! 40 people! That's insane! I find there's a fine line between connecting with them as people to have a more open and friendly relationship and too much personal information. My people are all field people, so I rarely actually SEE them, face to face. It's very strange to be texting with people I've only met once or twice, on a saturday night, and not be discussing my private life, to some degree.
But keeping off Facebook, etc, is helpful. What happened???

I am and it feels strange sometimes. I generally only post pictures of my LO though so I don't have anything controversial on Facebook. I tried to hide myself when I first joined Facebook but one person found me and it led to an avalanche.
