I traveled to St. Lucia while pregnant. I was 14-15 weeks. We stayed on resort so food wasn't really a big issue (we really didn't eat anyway because we found the food nasty). I did get sick a lot while driving but I get car sick anyway and those island roads were not pregnant motion sick prone lady friendly. I also got sick in the plane ride (again not really a surprise). I'd suggest getting some Sea Bands for travel. Wish I had them! Good luck and have fun!

in terms of food borne illnesses, i've gotten sick so many times going abroad. the biggest thing to watch out for is the water, of course, but the things that will trip you up is raw foods like fruits and salads (which are washed in the water) and don't get any ice in your drinks. any juices or drinks that are blended or not from a can/bottle could get you sick, even if it is from a nice restaurant or cafe. brush your teeth with bottled water if you are really worried.

not sure if it helps any, but that is what i've learned after suffering from week long bouts of montezuma's revenge on multiple occasions. anyway, enjoy and have a great time!

@mrskc: well, unfortunately, the only thing you can really do is let it run its course, which lasts about a week. this is going to get a little graphic...but a lot of people want to take immodium to make it stop, but i think its really counterproductive. your body is just trying to flush the bacteria out of your body and to take immodium to stop it could just make it worse. just stay hydrated (which will definitely make you go more, but you kind of have to do it anyway). the first day is the worst and then at some point, it becomes just a nuisance and it doesn't hurt and there's no fever or anything. then it just kinda stops one day. oh also...the important thing after it stops is to replenish the natural good bacteria in your intestines, because that, along with the bad bacteria, has been flushed out of your system. otherwise you could have the opposite problem and be horribly constipated (yes, it has happened to me before)! so yogurts are good for that and i've heard of probiotic pills, but never taken them. this is probably way too much information, but i hope it can help in some way!
