Oh yes, DH and I have had this convo before.

Pay off my parents house
Buy house close to us for his parents
Pay of our house and debts
quit work and go back to school and change fields
DONTATE considerable amounts. I would like to live how we do now, in the same home and everything and just "do good" with the rest
as well as INVEST a lot for our future generations in our family.

Run away from certain members of my family before they killed me for the money...

1. Quit my job
2. Buy a bunch of acreage
3. Build container houses on it spaced far enough apart so we wouldn't annoy our sibs who'd live in the other houses
4. Buy my Grandma a white house with a tin roof like she's always wanted (actually I'd do this right after I quit my job)
5. Something that I can't post on the interwebs
6. Invest
7. Get my PhD

We actually talk about this a lot

1) rent a plane and take our friends and family on a trip to hawaii. The only "unreasonable" thing we would do.
2) Pay off all debt of ours and immediate family.
3) College funds for all nieces
4) Build our dream home, along with houses for my parents & inlaws. Buy houses for my one sister/pay of mortgage of the other two siblings.
5) Donate to our favorite charities
6) invest the rest of it.

And I always joke that I would get a FABULOUS new wardrobe after a shopping trip with my 3 best friends. My husband said that would make us back to being "poor" haha

Ok, well if the lottery was 100mm when we won it, we would get approximately 25mm after taxes and the lump sum. We would do the following:

Take out 2 years of our current salaries to live off of for one year.
Put the rest into a high interest (haha) savings account and live off of that interest.
Pay off our mortgage and put our house up for sale.
Pay back our parents for our college costs.
Donate to the rescue where we got our dogs.
Travel.
Buy a house on a lake with plenty of land to roam with no neighbors to see or hear us.

Yeah, 100 million scares me too. I would probably give most of that away to charity first. Then split up the money and give my close family members a portion of it. Then save the rest of it in the bank for college and retirement. I would pay off my car. Buy a modest home. Pay for an accountant to make sure I pay the taxes. I probably would travel but I would still work a full time job. Maybe not asked to be paid for my job. I enjoy my job.

I would:

-Pay off my student loans
-Buy a nice but reasonably modest house
-Pay off my parents mortgage or buy them a new house, their choice
-Put away a nice college fund for our kids and my niece.
-Donate a nice chunk to local animal rescues
-Take my family on a nice vacation (this includes my parents and siblings)
-Hire an accountant/investment manager and invest/save the rest

OMG I think about this all the time -- ha ha! I am glad to know others do too...

I would start by paying off all of our debt and any debt of my parents and siblings. I would repay my parents for the cost of my college and graduate school that they helped me out with. Then I would buy us an awesome home in Capitol Hill in Seattle and also a house for my sister and her family in the same neighborhood (and make them move to Seattle and live in it -- ha ha!). And one for my brother too. I would quit my job and set up a charity, and administering that charity would be my new job. And I would set up a trust for my future children and also a trust for my nieces/nephews to pay for school. And then I would start having babies immediately! And not stop until we have 4 or 5 kids! Oh, and I would take my whole family on a vacation to Maui too. And... possibly buy a condo on the beach in Maui and one in Whistler B.C. And then live happily ever after!

I would pay off our house, buy a second car, travel, help out our families in various ways, and invest a good chunk to make sure my husband never has to work again. I'm sure there would be way more that I would do, but I can't think of anything.

sigh. i dream about this all the time.

first and foremost, i'd like to get my parents out of debt so they could finally retire.

pay off my (and hubby's) immediate family's debts.
set up college funds for nephew and my future kids.
hire a financial planner/investment manager to make sure our assets keep growing.
donate to charities and 10% to church.
