Oh Liam dropped! I'm glad because in 2011 it was #4, I think!

LO's name is on the list lol...but I don't know anyone with the name personally so it makes me feel better
honeydew / 7916 posts
I think they've also updated their database so you can see the trend in popularity of a name including 2012 now.

Neither our top girl or top boy name is on there, but our second girl's name is #1!

Yay-- I've been watching for this! Heading over to check if our top names moved on the list...

P's name made quite a jump from 169 in 2011 to 125 last year, I'm almost positive most of those being born in the last part of the year. Hope it stays out of the top 100 atleast one more year or even starts dropping again after this year..... One can hope right?!

Here's how my girls names ranked:
Natalie dropped a few spots, woohooo 17 (was 14 last year)
Abigail will be in the top 10 forever so that doesn't suprise me.
Jillian is 286 (was 173 when she was born)

Reagan went from 121 to 97. Oh well I still don't know anyone with the name!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@runsyellowlites: We were considering the name I think you're referring to, for a long time. But the name is becoming so popular now that I think it will have to be a middle name for us.

My son's name is in the top 10. I don't think I even realized that when we picked his name. Oh well.

@spaniellove: Before KK used it it was barely moving in popularity. Le sigh.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
Ours increased in popularity (from 27 to 19) but that doesn't surprise or bother me.

@mrs. tictactoe: It actually broke into the Top Ten for the first time this year. It was #15 last year. I thought of you because the SSA press release hypothesized that it was Liam Neeson's popularity driving it up, ha

Haha, Gwendolyn is #514! It jumped 50 places! lol... LO is getting a unique name for sure!
coconut / 8305 posts
@Bookworm: I wish I could come up with a name like mine... something that likely would NEVER make ranking at all! lol
pomegranate / 3212 posts
I was JUST on the ssa site yesterday wondering when 2012 was coming out! Thanks for posting!
persimmon / 1479 posts
@Bookworm: Wow that suprises me its that low. It seems like a more popular name than that.
blogger / pomegranate / 3201 posts
@rattles: Oh really? I wonder what list I looked at then... hmmm...

M dropped. She's not in the 200's yet but she's close!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Phew-- our favorite names are still at least 75 or above. I'm comfortable there.
I don't buy that Liam is more popular because of Liam Neeson though. It's popular because it's a really nice name, and sort of traditional but sort of not. or at least, that's what I think.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
@mrsmenow: I'm actually surprised by that # too! I didn't think it was that out in left field!
GOLD / pomelo / 5737 posts
C goes by the nn of her real name (we even considered changing it, we use the nn pretty much exclusively!) and the nn went up almost 50 spots. Woohoo.

@zippylef: =( I know alot don't care but name popularity was a HUGE factor in our name choice so I totally get it!
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
@runsyellowlites: @zippylef: I felt the same way. We were going to name LO Abigail until I saw how popular it was. That killed it for me
@scg00387: Thank you!

@runsyellowlites: I have a super common 80s name and it always really annoyed me that my name was so common. We named her that against my reservations because we love the name.
I really hope she doesn't have 3 of her in every class like I did.
coconut / 8305 posts
@Bookworm: I just saw our next name choices both jumped up almost 100 spots. Girl choice still being out of the top 700 & boy out of the top 200 but see the jump still makes me question how the coming years may go!
I tell you, everytime I get pregnant I have to ask my mom again HOW she came up with my name seeing how it'll never rank. I don't think I could ever be lucky enough to think of something like that! lol
pear / 1699 posts
@runsyellowlites: I really love Penny from Big Bang so Penelope ranked in our top 10 for girl names a year ago - though we had a boy. I hope a Kardashian doesn't have influence on the public
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
my LO is on the list. But I just read a statistic that 60 years ago, 1/4 of all babies had the number-one name. but today, only 1% of newborns received the top name. so I'm not worried!
pear / 1586 posts
@Bookworm: love that name! It would totally be on my list for a future dd but alas, Rs name ends in -lyn. Rs name is not in the top 1000 but an alternate spelling is just below 900. Our future boys name is just below 200 and I cannot decide if that is too popular for me. Future girls name is not in the top 1000. My name is not listed either
@runsyellowlites: Love Ps name!
coconut / 8305 posts
@cheesetomywhine: Thanks! It totally suites her.. I just wish we could come up with a nn we liked. Also, now I want to know what your "unpopular" names are! lol!!
honeydew / 7586 posts
Brady is #136. Not too bad.
@runsyellowlites: Now I am super curious as to what your name is!
pomelo / 5469 posts
Our planned name is #261 - not sure what it is in the UK but know it didn't make the top 100 for the last few years.
