D is 4.5 months and still using the hospital-style paci, the green Soothies. I just read somewhere that babies shouldn't use these past the age of 3months. One thing I read said they should be switched to an orthodontic paci because the shape of the Soothies nipple can cause issues when their teeth come in. Another thing said to switch because the Soothies are too flexible and babies can shove the whole thing in their mouths and choke.
I tried to switch his paci out last night and it did not go over well - he just kept pushing it out and then gagged. I know Soothies makes a next stage one that is more firm to prevent the baby from bending it and getting it in his mouth, but the nipple shape is still the same. I only read one thing that mentioned the nipple shape issue; everything else talked about the choking hazard.
Has anyone else heard about this? Did you switch pacis at some point?
