I'm 35 weeks and my OB recommended I get the Tdap vaccine before 36 weeks, so I'm going tomorrow. My husband is going with me to get it as well.
The only other adult who will be spending a lot of time around the baby is my mother, but I feel weird asking other people, including her, to get vaccinated.
For those of you who got the Tdap in your third trimester (or, I guess, any time), did you ask family members to get it too?

our dr said that anyone who would be spending a lot of time with E get the tdap. So we had grandparents get it. There was an outbreak near our city when she was born.

Both my husband and I got it, but we did not ask any other family members or friends to get it. We knew that no one was going to be around the baby long-term (just day visits) and that if they were sick, they would stay home, so we felt comfortable with them not being vaccinated.

I asked anyone who was going to be around my baby often in the beginning of his life and also to get a flu shot since he was born during the height of flu season. Our parents and siblings were kind enough to oblige me.

Dh got it right after she was born (though I nagged him toget it earlier). No one else really spent that much time with her (grandparents live far away) so I didn't ask them too. There aren't any outbreaks near us or near the grandparents so I was ok with it, but if there were local outbreaks, or if someone was going to spend a lot of time with her, I think I would have asked.

My OB said anyone spending time with baby should (in addition to flu vaccine). I asked those people to be up to date, was met with mixed responses. She also said handwashing is equally important so I was a hand wash extremist.

I asked my mom to get it, but she works at a children's hospital so turns out she was already required to get it for work. My OB said DH definitely needed to get it as well as anyone else that would regularly be around LO. My ILs live out of state, but if they had been around a lot I wouldn't have hesitated to ask them to get it as well.

I just texted my mom to ask her to do it and she was totally cool about it, so I don't know why I felt weird about it.
I think my in-laws might be difficult but they live far away and won't be seeing the baby as often so I'm not as concerned about them.

I have asked my parents and in-laws to get the TDAP. DH and I already got our TDAP vaccine. I did not feel bad asking people to get the vaccine.

My OB gives it to me sometime in the 3rd tri (maybe today?) They also suggested people who will spend a lot of time with the baby to get it, so DH got it and I asked my mom to. We asked DH's parents to also, but they live in S America so it may be tougher (and less necessary).

DH and my mom both got one, we asked the ILs(and offered to pay for them) but they refused. They live a little over an hour away so we didn't see them much anyhow.

I asked all grandparents and my brother, and will do the same with all future babies. No one seemed to mind much or at all.

We asked anyone who wanted to stay in our home over night to get it since they would be spending a significant amount of time around the baby. No one had an issue with it. And if they did, that's their choice not to get the vaccine, we just wouldn't have had them come stay with us.

@LAZB: TDAP only needs a booster every 10 years so you shouldn't need to ask family to get another shot for future babies unless the kids are spread very far apart.

My parents and my sister got tdap and flu shots when I asked them to. She was premature and born in late September so I was particularly concerned. They were happy to do it.

We both got it, and our parents all got it. No one had any issue with it, especially since LO was a fall baby.

Just DH and I, my parents already got theirs not by me asking, but per their dr. I didn't bother asking anyone.

Dh got his while I was pregnant, I got it at the hospital after delivery, and his mom got it when LO was a newborn. I think we had just mentioned it to her that we had to get them and she went out and did it on her own.

Both of us got it while I was pregnant, and we asked anyone (close fam members) to get it if they would be visiting after LO was born. No one objected.

Yes, DH and I both got it, and I also asked my mom to get it as she was coming to stay with us for a few weeks. I did not feel the slightest bit bad about it - protecting my newborn from a horrible disease that could be fatal was far more important to me than anyone else's feelings!
I'm glad your mom was happy to get it - mine was too and I think most people would be amenable to it considering the risk to the baby should they not get it!

I'm really close with my family and had no issues asking them to get the tdap, and they had no issues with it. Although, my BFF tried to get hers and since she'd had it 8+ years ago her doc told her it was fine, even though my OB said every five years is better.
Anyone know if there's truth to that?
Then my sister went to get hers but her OB told her she doesn't need one yet either since it's been 7 years (but she's newly pregnant so she'll get one later on).
So far only DH and I have it, but my parents and brother and brother-in-law should be getting theirs as well.

@spaniellove: Yea, I think 7 and 8 years is WAY too long. But what can I do? Force them both to go back, I don't want to do that although I know they'll both be around baby a lot.

We asked whether our family members had been vaccinated and suggested that anyone who hadn't already gotten it get it before LO was born. We didn't require the shot to visit us or anything, but no one was staying with us.
There was an outbreak here in 2012, so most of our close family members had gotten the shot at their annual physicals already. There has been a big push to get everyone vaccinated here.

Yup! We asked for everyone to get the flu shot and tdap. DS#2 was born in December and it was a bad flu season and whooping cough was going around, too.

We asked our immediate families to check and see if they were up to date and if not to get a booster and everyone did so.
