So today I found out I had GD - 2 weeks after my glucose tolerance test might I add! I sobbed my heart out (poor midwife!) because I really, really thought Id got away with it. No news is good news, right? Wrong! Sometimes it means you've slipped through the net!
I've been given a blood meter and instructions to test my blood sugar several times a day and eat healthily. I will see a consultant in 10 days to determine if I need to take tablets. If I can't control it with diet and tablets i will require insulin.
The diabetes midwife said it is very rare for someone to be able to control their blood sugar with diet alone. She also said it is usual to be induced between 38 and 40 weeks - and if im induced i will need to be attached to a monitor and therefore remain in the hospital bed. There goes ny dream of a med free water birth.
So tell me - the good and the bad. Did you control GD with diet alone? Did you have meds or insulin? Did you go full term and give birth naturally? Or were you induced? All the details, please!!!
FYI Im 32, FTM, history of diabetes in the family, my blood sugar 1 hr after dinner tonight was 11.9 (although it was 3.8 before!), im 28+2 weeks pregnant and baby girl is currently measuring spot on (estimated weight 2lb 12oz).
Thanks bees. Im going to try so hard to beat this!
