Currently 25W now, but just wondering if anyone that was team green did anything "special" for announcing to family what the gender/name was, or if they just announced. I hadn't thought about it before, but suddenly thought about it today. I'm sure DH just wants to keep it simple and go out and say It's a ______, and give details.

For the most part we just announced it. For my MIL though she got the first picture of P with her name & stats before we told anyone else b/c she "won" on our "guessing baby's birthday" game at the shower. Tbh I think just announcing it is plenty exciting!

My DH plans on walking out into the waiting room and announcing that we have a baby and then walking away for fun...except that he already told everyone this so he can't really do it.

We will just do the regular way.... DH is so excited to be the one to get to go in the waiting room and tell everyone if it's a boy or girl. After 9 months of waiting I think they will be extremely excited as it is! I am kind of sad to miss their reactions but want DH to have that moment

I told him all joking aside he's not allowed to announce the name, just the gender!

When I had LO we weren't team green. We had our family in the waiting room and when LO was born DH snapped a picture and texted it to them. We did skin to skin for an hour so they had to wait to see her in person and we wanted them to have something to hold them over.
Next time we'll be team green and we'll probably do the same thing, but this time say his/her name. They're not unisex so I'm sure that will be enough for them to know.

at least that's the story they told us.... I was busy cuddling lo.

The only issue we had was that DH didn't immediately go out to the waiting room. He stayed with us to cuddle for a bit as a family of three. But I think our moms were a bit upset bc they could hear that labor had ended and some nurses came out but the nurses obviously couldn't give them any details.
So we finally told the nurse they could come in and when they came in we said its a girl.

I wasn't tg but it would have been announced the same way, text/call, depending on the time of day!

I didn't vote, because we didn't end up being team green. BUT, I always wanted to be. I imagined that I would bring a cute blue & pink hat & blanket set, and then wrap the baby up when all of the family came in after the baby was born! After doing all the hard work to get the baby there, I wouldn't want to miss everyone's reaction!

@photojane: Oh I really like this idea!! I am planning on buying a blue and pink outfit for the hospital and returning whichever I don't end up using anyway. I wonder how much DH has his heart set on the announcement in the waiting room moment, lol

We didn't have people in the waiting room, so we just called hubs' parents (my mom was in the delivery room with us) and my dad and gave them the news and the name.
I think special "things" are over-the-top... I mean, the baby is here. What else do you need? Confetti? A cake?

I would advise not to announce surprise names over the phone. We did that and it went really poorly. My mom thought I said Laura and she was delighted at how pretty it was. Not so much at the correct name. We announced to DH's family over the phone too. And we got a text as soon as we hung up, "What is her name? We all heard something different."

To the Op, I think just walking into the waiting room and blurting it out is enough! It is suh an exciting time....such an amazing day. Don't worry, it'll be plenty exciting!

I didn't vote because I wasn't team green, but I would have done something semi-fun like a pink or blue outfit for immediate family/close friends to see in person. I would definitely want to see people's reactions.

I don't actually think we will have anyone in the waiting room-- I don't really want anyone there! So probably it will be a text with the sex and the name to family and close friends all at once. I remember when my brother sent the announcement about his son, I was on a conference call at work and almost started crying-- I had to mute the phone! He didn't get to see the reaction but it was still great. (Also I live far away from him).
That way, we can text people pretty much right away, but not have to take a lot of time on phone calls, etc, until we are ready.
This just got me way too excited. 8 weeks to go, give or take!

We had both sets of parents in the waiting room and while we were TG, they were both CONVINCED it was a boy. They came wearing blue and bearing boy gifts. We took an hour as a little family before DH went out to tell them the news. He didn't say "It's a girl!" - just announced her name and weight. My mom's first thought was apparently "what a funny name for a boy..." DH texted a photo of me holding her in a little pink hat with a bow to all of our family and friends.

DH just went into the waiting room and made the announcement that it was a boy! I was really happy to give him this moment. I had saved a draft "It's a ___" email that he then filled in and sent out, and he did a really good job with it - put all this cute stuff in about his new son. That was how we spread the news to the rest of the family & friends.
