My DH needs a work spouse!

@autumnlove: mine too! except he's self employed.. lol

DH's closest work friend (I referred to her as his work wife) relocated away over the summer. He definitely misses her, but they still gchat during work hours. He has a couple of other close work friends too that are still at his plant. I'm glad he has great coworkers. It would suck to spend so much time at work and have no one to talk to.

I don't know if I'd be comfortable with DH having a work spouse, and vice versa!

DH doesn't have one, and doesn't confide in any of his co-workers (he's the boss). I definitely don't have one, but I do have a work BFF!

@Little Misters Mom: To me, work spouse implies someone who gets you without having to give the backstory. I've almost always had a work husband and at times, I am considered the office mom (even before I had children).

As examples, in a previous job, my work husband and I used to sit across the desk from each other and had each other's lines on our phones. I knew who all the private calls were from and vice versa and would even let his wife know if he couldn't take a call because he was busy or whatever.

DH has friends at work but I'm not sure he relies on them for career advice, since they are less experienced. I do wish he had someone to help guide him, though, I don't think he realizes it's pretty important to have someone like that.

I, however, am deeply entrenched here, all with male coworkers. In fact, my mentor is taking me to lunch tomorrow. Another took me to lunch last week. DH isn't weirded out that i regularly have one-on-one lunches with men. I used to work with a really great guy who called me his work-daughter and he was my work-dad. Men in their 20's and 30's are far and few between here :). I do have one friend who is abhorred by the concept and thinks it's terribly inappropriate i go to these lunches.

@looch: LOL when i had a female manager, a coworker's wife used to call ALL THE TIME and once she got fed up with all the personal calls at work and answered his phone for him and told him he was busy....and the wife was so mad "another woman" answered the phone. It was hilarious since she was his boss.

My husband has a work husband? Although, they're kinda best friends in personal lives too. They nag each other and vent to each other, it's so cute.

yes, DH has one and she is super nice and understands the in and outs of their industry and they give each other lots of advice. I had an awesome work husband at my old job but not anymore. I am close to several women at my job though.

My DH doesn't have a work spouse. He's close with his coworkers though. There was a recent shakeup at his office. One of his coworkers texted him if he wanted to talk about it as the coworker was away on vacation. The coworker is generally surly and rough around the edges, but cares about my DH, so that means a lot to me.

@mrs.shinerbock: seriously. If some reacts that hard to a boss or employee calling about work stuff, there's more going on. Sometimes I take calls in the off hours-always from men. It's always work related and DH knows that!

I don't like the term work wife or work husband or work spouse. I think it would be disrespectful to my husband for me to call someone that. Even jokingly, that just doesn't feel right and it doesn't sound like a "cute" term to me. My husband would never call someone that, either. I have a male coworker who is my direct counterpart and we have to coordinate everything and so we communicate a lot, but it would not enter my mind to call him that bc I think it would be disrespectful to his wife and my husband. Dude is just called my coworker, nothing more nothing less.

So no. I wouldn't be grateful for any type of work spouse!

I don't think Wagon Sr. has a work wife. He kinda has a work mom...?? his finance manager is a woman almost his mom's age and she is the sweetest. Even though he's her boss, she gives him advice and sort of takes cares of him. He and his boss are like BFFs though... I guess they are work bros? haha

ETA: I wouldn't do well with him having a work wife. He wouldn't either if I had a work husband. We're too jealous!

@Little Misters Mom: I'm with you. I don't like the term "work wife/husband." Seems weird to me!

@blackbird: Totally hear you on being surrounded by men! I go out with one my coworkers all the time (we walk to Dunks and back), but I just call him my mentor of my coworker or my friend. We talk about everything, both work and personal life, but it would be so weird for me to refer to him as my work husband! I don't think he, his wife, or my husband would appreciate that!

Considering how many relationships/affairs start at work, I probably wouldn't be too cool (let alone grateful) with my DH having a work wife! I definitely don't have a work husband...my closest co-workers are all females.

I guess we're pretty old fashioned but neither my DH or I would be ok with each other calling someone else our work wife/husband.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I find the whole work spouse concept very odd, but not because it's a close relationship with a member of the opposite sex. I guess just because I like to keep my professional and private lives separate and have never worked in an environment where these kind of relationships existed. I am totally fine with my husband having close friends of the opposite sex.
