I never read The Giver in school. DH had me read it so we can go see the movie. I finished it last night and now I'm so sad!
Have you read it? What do you think about it?

Yes! One of my favorite books. I've read it a handful of times. I want to read it again before seeing the movie.

It is one of my favorite books from childhood. I still read it probably every year.
Side note: I am going to avoid the movie entirely... they change the entire plot!

@rahlyrah: oh really? What do you think the ending means? You call wall me if you don't want to spoil it for anyone.

@Leialou: Love the book. The book is part of a quartet that let's you know how the pair at the end fair. The other three books aren't really sequels, but take place in the same universe and there is some overlap.

@Leialou: @Ms.Badger: @rahlyrah: I want to know more, I loved the book! I haven't read it for quite a while, and didn't know a movie was coming out for it. Does anyone know when that will be? I will definitely read it again before then, just because I like to compare even though the book is always better than the movie.

I LOVE the Giver. One of my very favorites from childhood. I'm not a big movie person but I'm thinking about having the ILs babysit so we can go see it!

Love the Giver. I almost don't want to see the movie for fear that it will be ruined.

Did anyone see the movie? I got scared after reading the reviews. They added a love triangle (how? considering the only one who doesn't have suppressed feelings is Jonas?) and a motorcycle chase scene. I may wait for the dollar theater to have it so I won't feel like I wasted my money

@Ms.Badger: I didn't know there were other books! I need to check those out.

@Ms.Badger: this is how I feel! I haven't seen it yet but the reviews make me thing I should wait for Netflix.

Love that book. I still have my first copy of it, I've read it at least 50 times but I want to read it again before going to see it! I bought the audio book because I have to study for my A+ certification so I can't sit and read.

I bought the book on a whim a few weeks ago and just started it last night (only got through two chapters before I fell asleep), but there is a new forward by Lois Lowry "Reflecting on 20 Years of The Giver." A quote that really resonated with me was:
"The important thing is that a film doesn't obliterate a book. The movie is here now. But the book hasn't gone away. It has simply grown up, grown larger, and begun to glisten in a new way."
I really like that way of thinking about books turned into movies.
If you want to read the whole forward, it's here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lois-lowry/the-giver-movie_b_5527063.html
