I'd like to have a more comfortable living room area where I could relax with a book or watch TV. Right now it's kind of in a public area near the kitchen and bedrooms and if the kids hear the TV on, then they come running to watch it (no matter what is on). And then they ask if they can watch cartoons instead of whatever I'm watching. It sure would be nice to be able to watch something I wanted, without worrying if it was child appropriate!

We have such a long list! If I had to only pick one thing it would be a toss up between having a ton more storage or having an amazing open concept.

we have a thousand projects on our list but the one that won't happen for a while is a second bathroom and i want it so bad!

I wish our kitchen had a different layout and we had a nice big island where we could have casual quick meals and snacks and prep. The new house has more than enough space but I wish I could take space from other areas and add it to the kitchen.
There is a loooooong list of things we want to change but that's the big one that will be really hard to do.
Oh, and I guess I wish the master shower didn't leak into the laundry room so we can only use the other bathroom until we fix the tiles.

A room we could use as a playroom on the main floor. Whether it was an office, another living room, something. We have the family room that is the toy room too and it's just so cluttered!

Our house has two bedrooms upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs. I would LOVE it if there were three upstairs and one downstairs!

We just bought our house (haven't moved in yet), so I feel a little bad saying there's ANYTHING I'd like to change - but I wish it had a true, separate, mud room. Aside from some minor design/decor choices, which we will adjust to our taste over time, everything else is our dream home!

Our house was built in 1770 so 4 of the bedrooms are connected as walk-through bedrooms. I would love it if at least two were separate any a hallway. I feel like we will need to figure this out if we end up having a third.

Change all the built ins and kirchen cabinet to white or cream.

Just one? Can I pick one room? We moved into our house about 2 months ago now and there's a room off the kitchen that we set up as a second living room/family room and will eventually act as a playroom once the baby is here. There's a nasty older blue carpet in there and the ceiling is those beadboard tile things that you see in schools or hospitals. This room was an addition to the original house and I have no clue what they were thinking. I'd love to rip up the carpet and put down hardwood or at least laminate, and then do a regular ceiling. Someday!
If I could pick one project only I'd turn our half bath into a second full bath.

Add an additional room downstairs. The dream-house fairy could shave off and redistribute a good 1/2 of our master bedroom to do so

Despite all those things we absolutely love our house, and can't imagine living anywhere else!

Too hard for me to pick just one.
If it had to be something inside the house, either a bigger (open) kitchen instead of the galley-like skinny one we have, or a bathroom on the first floor.
My bigger annoyances have to do with outside though. We live in the city and we don't have an off-street parking spot, nor can we get packages delivered unless we are home (and even then, the delivery men often don't bother ringing our bell and just leave a note saying they "tried" to deliver). Both of those are a huge pain to deal with.

I would love an actual mudroom/porch that also doubled as a mainfloor laundry room. Maybe someday!

Back yard: add a pool and screened porch.

Toy room that's NOT DS's room. Gosh. We do have a spare room on main level which would be perfect for it, but it has big unused furniture accumulated in there, and there is basically no lighting and no air conditioning in that room. We need to figure the situation out before xmas when big toys come in.

Sooo new floors. We have nice hardwood throughout. But it's dark and shiny and never looks clean.

A play room just off the main living space, so I can keep an eye on my LO and keep the clutter out of the living room! Also, move all the bedrooms to the back of the house (facing the backyard)- 2 bedrooms face the front and it gets noisy sometimes.

The one thing we can't change, but which I'd love, would be to move the house around the corner so it was on the quieter side street rather than the main street for our part of the neighborhood. I'd also love being able to easily access the back yard from the main floor -- the way it's set up now, you can either go out through the basement or go through a side door, down a little alley, and down a small flight of steps in the garden. It's not a big deal, it's just a little annoying when we're grilling.
The kitchen, main bathroom, and basement family room all need updating and the front yard needs some landscaping, but that's all stuff we can and will get to eventually.

New flooring throughout, our carpet and tiles are twenty years and showing their age! Failing that, I'd just like new paint and wallpaper.

@bushelandapeck: That's a really common style here for old apartments. Our last apartment had 2 adjoining living rooms that adjoined to two bedrooms with no separate hallway.
We live in an apartment, and while it isn't perfect, it's good for now. What we would love is outdoor space, like a big balcony or terrace.

Removing New York state to make it closer to my parents isn't an option.
I'd like bigger closets. Our house is old so we're lucky to have the closets we do but they are just not big enough.

A master suite. Our house technically has one but it's the smallest bedroom and only has one tiny closet and barely fits a queen bed and a dresser so we use it as the guest room/nursery.

If the work was being done by a magic house fairy, I'd like to flatten the front yard. Right now we live up a steep hill so DS can't play in the front or on the driveway.
If the work was being done by a regular contractor, I'd like to move the laundry upstairs and our of our mudroom. That would give us more mudroom/entry space and I wouldn't have to bring laundry up and down all the time.

Location - it was always the negative of our house - we are on a busy road and would love to be on cul de sac.

We have a whole list of projects we want to do over the next decade (kitchen extention, wood floors, attic conversion, new bathroom, drive, new outbuilding) but if I could only do one I would chose the attic conversion because S is going to outgrow her box room in the next few years....
Despite all those things we absolutely love our house, and can't imagine living anywhere else!
