On Friday a three year old girl was killed by a drive-by shooting in a relatively decent neighborhood while it was still light out. I'm posting this because it seems like only local news outlets have picked up this story. It's perplexing that some tragedies draw national attention and others don't.

I've seen this on CNN and Daily Mail so it's gotten some wider coverage, which is good. This story is so tragic and makes me angry. I grew up in the DC area and spent a lot of time in Baltimore. It hits close to home

So sad. I had not heard about it and I am from the Baltimore suburbs. However, I really haven't had the tv on in a couple days (I get most of my news via radio during my commute). I used to nanny for a family in that neighborhood. Some areas just outside that area are a little sketchy, so at night I was always extra careful going to my car...in fact, the father would usually walk me even when I protested that an escort was unnecessary. I definitely heard gunfire at night when I would sleep there. All that is besides the point though...this kind of crap happens way to often, all over the place. It's not the first time a child in Bmore has been killed by stray bullets...I can think of several in recent years. Just awful.

@78H20: I definitely would be on guard walking in that area at night, but it just shocks me that this happened while it was still light out. I guess drive-by shooters don't care what time of day it is. I can't imagine the pain this family and community is feeling. I hope that the police catch and put away the shooters; maybe justice will provide the family with the slightest sense of comfort.
