I'm 36.5 weeks and I am 1 cm dilated. Baby is still high so I know I've got plenty of time to wait.
I was just curious as to when you guys started dilating, how quickly it progressed and when you actually went into labor and/or gave birth?
Trying to be prepared and patient at the same time

Following! I'm currently 2 days past due. Had my cervix checked for the first time on my due date and I was 2 cm dilated, 75% effaced.

Unfortunately I think it is all over the board and you will find that no matter what you still cant predict labor! Here is my info!
34 Weeks - Dr did a check (usually not until 36 weeks but I wanted to go out of town) was told baby was very low and definitely engaged. (ie No vacation)
36 weeks - 1cm, starting to efface
37 weeks - 1cm+ more effaced
38 weeks - 3cm, very effaced (membranes swept)
40w1d - 4cm and 80% effaced (membranes swept - hard)
40w2d - scheduled induction at 7am, labor started at 1am...admitted to hospital at 6:30am at 5cm - given morphine. 8am epidural and 6cm. Noonish - epidural turned off - 1pm final check ready to push....1:20pm baby is out.

Another - completely different story.
My sister...1cm dialated and starting to efface around 38 weeks - no change beyond that. 40w3d...6pm - mild contractions, 7pm contractions are strong - head to hospotal. 8pm admitted....9pm baby arrived.

I was 1-1.5 cm and 75% both one week and 12 hours before I went into labor.

35 weeks - 2cm and 75% effaced
37 weeks - 2cm and 100% effaced, but was induced at this time

Not much.
37-38w maybe 50% effaced, not dilated
39w, 50% effaced, maybe fingertip dilated.
Stayed there until I was induced at 41w
But I don't think it really matters, you can walk around dilated at 3cm for weeks or you can go from nothing to baby in 24 hours.

With my first, i didn't have a cervical check before going into labor but i was 4cm after my water broke at 37w5d.
with my second, i was about 75-85%effaced at 34w (was being monitored for short cervix), dilated at 4-5cm at 36w, and had him at 38w. so luckily for us he didnt' come too early!

I have no idea!! Midwives never checked dilation during pregnancy or labor. BUT, I love seeing all of the variations here. I know at 38 weeks, I started getting tons of contractions, and "lightning vagina" ... I imagine there was a lot of "activity" happening!

@Kodybear that's really interesting! I am 38w2d now. I was on bedrest for several weeks and being closely monitored for preterm labor and a short cervix (I think by 33 weeks I was down to about 0.8cm, I guess that's about 80% effaced or so). Well, I made it to 37 weeks, they took me off bedrest and now... nothing! My doctor keeps saying "I can't believe you're still pregnant." It's a good outcome for the baby, for sure, but crazy! I am only 1-2cm dilated and baby is very low station. And I have been having tons of crazy, painful contractions for months. So I have no idea when he will come!

I was only checked once before delivery at 39w and I was like 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated. DD was born 3 days later 7 hours after my water broke! I got to the hospital and was already 9 cm.

I was 1 cm dilated starting at 37 weeks. Same at 38, 39, and at 40 I didn't even have her check. I went into labor at 40+5, but even early on when I was 3cm dilated I was only 50% effaced. Then I went from 4 cm to pushing in 90 minutes, so honestly, it doesn't mean much.

My only checks were at the hospital when I went into labor at 39+6. My first one was 1.5, and that was after being in labor fr 8 hours with the last two having contractions less than 3 minutes apart. I was 100% effaced. It took me 17ish hours to get to 10 from there. Only medication used to speed things up was a tiny bit of morphine so I could sleep because rest was the only thing making me progress.

At 36 weeks I was 1cm and 90% effaced. It stayed like that until 40w4d when all of a sudden I lost my mucous plug, started contractions, and went to 5cm and 100% effaced in a matter of hours! I had my daughter about 12 hrs later.
Those last 4 weeks of waiting was sooooo hard!

I honestly don't remember even getting a cervical check at the Obgyn before my due date. I went 5 days past with DD. I know at my 40 weeks visit I was only a cm or so.

36 wks: 1 cm dilated; 50% effaced. Exactly the same every week after that including when I went into labor at 39w4d.
