I have a few friends with infertility issues so I dreaded telling them. Of course everyone said congrats and that they're excited.... but it's still awkward for me. I've miscarried so I know how it feels to want a baby and not be able to have one.
I also told a friend who has a LO and has been trying for another with no luck. She came out with that after I announced to her.... I felt awful!

I am nervous about it but they are going to find out eventually so I'd rather they find out from me now (well when we hit 12 weeks) rather than the shock of them seeing the bump later. When I hear other friends sad stories I usually tell them I understand and have been there. Then offer happy thoughts and baby dust. Congratulations again!

I felt bad telling anyone that I was pregnant the first time around because I wasn't married to my husband at the time. The people I was most scared to tell? My parents. Follow that with my friends and my boss (who was really like an on-campus dad figure)... Some of them didn't find out I was pregnant until I was already six or seven months along. Since my pregnancy coincided with the changing of the seasons, it wasn't hard to hide under sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters, and what not.
I was actually a little scared the second time around just because I didn't want people to judge me getting pregnant so soon after the birth of our son. I'm a big worrier when it comes to other people's opinions. We held off as long as we could before telling people.

I hate telling all people. It just feels so weird and awkward like "nothing is too new with me, just well, ya know, pregnant"
I have a particular friend who hasn't ever had a boyfriend (let alone a serious relationship), lives at home, and is sorting her life out. She is an amazing friend, and means so much to me, but last fall we had a girls weekend and she got drunk and told me that she felt like she lost her best friend when I had babies. Well, now that I'm pregnant with number THREE, I'm really dreading that conversation.

@artbee: same as you, I dreaded telling a friend who also had fertility issues.
It was so difficult telling her since we'd both been "in it together" & had each other to commiserate with. That, and I knew how difficult it was to hear others good news, since I'd been on the receiving end of such good news for years.

I was scared to tell my mom, actually. She and I do not have the best relationship, so I was really worried she would not be happy. She actually reacted better than I expected, although our relationship has not improved as I'd hoped

I was really nervous to tell most of DH's family. I'm not completely sure why I was so nervous--we'd been married over a year, and we aren't really young or anything, but I still held my breath when MIL opened our framed announcement poem during our Yankee swap at Christmas.

I was nervous to tell one of my friends who makes everything about her. She was single at the time and freaked out about it a little.
I was also really nervous to tell work! I put it off until I was 16 weeks.

@MamaBehr: I was the same! I was generally uncomfortable talking about it before I was showing. I was even super nervous about telling my parents!

@artbee: yes, i was terrified and cried when I told a close family member with infertility; I really wish I could've handled it better but my emotions got the best if me.

Haven't told my brother and his wife yet but scared to because they have has infertility issues and last I knew they are saving up for IVF. I was also afraid to tell a friend of mine who doesn't want kids (for multiple reasons) and already has her tubes tied and I was afraid she wouldn't be thrilled to know we were having one. But she has been excited for us, and asks lots of questions. So it wasn't as bad as I thought!

The first time I wasn't nervous. This time I was extremely nervous to announce to anyone since the babies will be so close and LO is still pretty young. Fortunately most people have been really supportive.

With my first, a lot of my friends were single and nowhere close to having kids and honestly a fair number of them were self-professed baby haters or child free by choice. Two of my closest friends at the time fell under all of these categories and I was most nervous about telling them. Their initial reactions were warm and congratulatory, but they pretty much disappeared from my life during pregnancy and after the birth.
That said, I was really surprised by a few people who seemed to become closer throughout and saw us regularly after DS was born.

I was nervous to tell my sister. She's older and unmarried, so I feel like it's a sensitive topic. Of course she was happy for me, but I'm sure it stings a bit to see your little sister get married and have a baby.

with #1, I had a couple friends who had been trying for a long time to get pregnant, so I was a little nervous. I knew one would be happy for me, the other said congrats, and then didn't talk to me really until she got pregnant. then she was my BFF...
with #2, same as @autumnlove: I was 6 months PP when I got pregnant and I figured people would be all over that! plus I was nervous to tell, one of the friends from above, because she's still hasn't gotten pregnant. a friend of mine who had a m/c while I was pregnant with #1, and my brother/his then fiancée because I was supposed to be in their wedding and needed to tell them that I was going to be 7 months pregnant at the time of the wedding.

@jh524: I cried when one of my family members told me that she was having problems conceiving. I sat there crying to her because I felt so bad, and she had to comfort me. I felt like such a jerk!
