I'm sure there has been one of these threads but I wanted a concise poll that I could look at. When did you switch and why and did it go well?

We converted to a toddler bed when he was a little over 2 (maybe 25 months?) I wasn't planning on doing it until he started trying to climb out of the crib, but sleep had become a nightmare and I was willing to try anything (and it worked!)
ETA: Also, I voted wrong. I had to go check back through my IG to figure out exactly when I did it

DS - right at age 3 because he was climbing out
DD - almost 3 because we were getting a free mattress and didn't have any place to store it so we switched!

We transitioned DS at just before 27 months to a twin bed. He wasn't climbing out yet, but we had a slew of transitions we wanted him to go through before the arrival of LO#2. The transition was smooth and it didn't affect his sleep.

Following. My LO is 21 months and I'm starting to think it about it for the future.

3 months before turning 3. We needed the crib for LO2, and he had never climbed out so we don't feel the need to switch any earlier.

20 months with DD. Just yesterday (unintentionally - we didn't plan to) with DS at a little over 2 years.

Just before she turned 2. She declared her crib days over by launching herself out of her crib and landing on her head.

We are three months shy of DD turning 3 and we still have no plans on moving her. She's on the small side and LOVES her crib

We are ditching it Friday, so 25 months.
Why she gotta climb out????

We converted the crib when he was 29 months. He wasn't crawling out and was perfectly happy in the crib, but I like to do one transition at a time, so we tackled the crib conversion before we started on potty training.

We switched to the toddler bed around 20m because we felt she was ready and her sleep royally sucked. We had nothing to lose. It went So well. Her sleep drastically improved. We switched to a twin around 26m because we needed the crib for her baby sister. That went really well too!

@Smurfette: Curious to know how it goes! He isn't really climbing out but he can. Mostly he doesn't because he goes right to sleep when we put him in and we don't leave him to cry when he wakes up. So he pretty much wakes up sometime in the wee-hours of the morning (today it was at 5 but sometimes it is more like 1) and cries "Maaaaaaaaaamaaaaaa!" and we go get him and bring him in our bed. So no time to try to get out. But I'm wondering if him being in his own actual bed would help that situation... I don't know.

19 months- trying to climb out and wanted crib for baby brother. Was great!
16 months- international move and didn't want to move crib. Was awful! (But that might have been because of the move too...)

around 19 months. LO was going through a hell period of sleep, and was purposefully throwing himself out of the crib so that we would come running after hearing the crashing noise.

Lo is still content in her crib at 31 months. Switching to a big girl bed is one of my fears!!

My son started climbing out before his 2nd birthday, so right after age 2. My daughter is 2.5 and has not yet entertained the possibility that she could get out. She seems very happy in the crib. So no hurry, but I imagine it will happen by age 3 because it's not a full-sized crib.

He's still in the crib at 2.5 years old or so. We'll switch him to a twin bed when we move.

24 months and still using it. She's never attempted to climb out. I think the little weirdo likes it

We're still in the crib at almost 2.5. He's never seriously tried to climb out. I'm due in a few months with #2 so I'm hoping we can hold off on the transition for at least a few months after the baby comes. We'll convert his crib to a toddler bed as we already have another crib. I say, why mess with a good thing if it's not a problem?

DS1 started sleeping with us at around 8 months, so we weren't big crib users. But he's 2.5 now and I can't imagine him in there. He'd be so cramped!
DS2 is still in it at 11 months. I can see transitioning him at around 2.

Almost 3... so 33 months? She never climbed out, but we had spent the weekend in a condo with her on a mattress on the floor, so when we got home, we converted her crib to a toddler bed with rail.

18 months. She never climbed out, she was just ready, and we wanted to move the crib into baby 2's room a few months before she was due, to give LO1 the chance to get used to the idea.

Cribs are just for decoration in our house. Neither kid has really slept much in a crib. My son was under 1 and we moved him to a floor bed and slept in our bed. We just got my DD (7 months) a floor bed and took down her crib. lol I just can't figure out how to get kids to sleep in cribs.

Just before age 3! He finally started climbing out and hurting himself...

20 months- we converted to a toddler bed because she started climbing out of the crib. It went surprisingly well and we had no issues.

28 months, two months after our #2 arrived. We kept #2 in the pack and play in our room and made the switch after things settled down a bit and we wanted our room back.
He never tried climbing out, but he had fallen out of the crib once (the night after #2 was born). The transition was absolutely effortless. I used the video monitor to watch him and remind him to get back into bed and kept a baby gate on his door. His sleep has been better than ever in the toddler bed.

We switched at 26 months with my older daughter because the younger one was going to come. It meant she had 2 months in her regular bed before the baby arrived, so she was well adjusted.
The younger one was really young...like 18 months. Just because we wanted to get rid of the crib. And it was fine, though she tends to move around and fall out far more than the older one ever did, and she is 3 now!

We just switched last weekend at 28 months. He's never tried to climb out and rarely even stands in the crib, but we had a long weekend and list of things to do around the house so figured it was a good time. He whined a little at bedtime the first night but otherwise it's been the same routine as always and he still hasn't climbed out on his own. I'm sure that will change soon!

We will be doing this very soon (within the month) and LO is between 2.5-3. She only recently started trying to climb out, although she'll only climb up onto the railing and then ask to be helped.

We will do it sometime between 2.5 and 3 yrs (this summer)--LO2 is coming in Oct and we need the crib.

We plan on ditching it this July/August when she is around 22 months. I am hoping to have her adjusted to it a couple months before baby #2 comes in October.

We ditched it at 19 months in January and he did awesome! Until Daylight Savings hit and then he was up and outta bed at all hours of the night. We put him back in his crib since he hadn't been climbing out. He still isn't climbing out and night wakings have gone back to 0. We'll attempt again later.
