The stick blender I was using to make smoothies died on me this week so I am looking for a replacement but wondering if I should get another stick blender or something else. I like that the blender can also be used for soups just by putting it in the pot, but I don't think the stick blender has as much power as a regular blender. Also regular blenders have so many parts, I am sure I wouldn't use it as frequently as I would the stick blender.

I always use my stick blender for smoothies unless I am making it for multiple people.

I have a ninja and it is the ergonomic one... I like it okay. It is easy to clean and works pretty well...

@cyndistar3: What brand is yours? Do you include ice? I am looking them up now....the cuisinart has good reviews but it says no ice?

I am liking my vitamix a lot. My wedding blender (oster) was pretty much crap. Could not crush an ice cube for anything.

I have a magic bullet and like it a lot. It's pretty cheap, too. I like that you can just drink out of the cup you make it in...no need to pour into another glass. It comes with 4 cups and lids and I make them ahead of time and freeze them, too.

I use a regular blender, but agree it is a pain to wash the parts.
I don't think my stick blender (which I love) is up to the task, unfortunately.
If $$$ was no object, I would get a Vitamix because it is just one piece and works amazingly well.
My parents have a Magic Bullet that they love for smoothies.

My immersion blender is awesome for soup and applesauce but wouldn't handle ice. I use a ninja blender!

@lawbee11: @septca: I used to have a magic bullet which I really loved but I had to live in a very damp house for a few months and it got mold in the base! So I had to throw it out. Maybe now that we aren't living in such a strange place, we could get a new one!

@Greentea: I saw it had really good reviews on Amazon, but was a little skeptical since wasn't that originally an "as seen on TV" type thing? Then again, so was the MB a long time ago....tell me how is the ninja different from other blenders?

@septca: Was thinking about this one! This is actually just perfect in my price range also. But then I'd have to get something else for soups. Blending soups in a MB is a pain in the arse.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Agreed. I have the Cuinsinart stick blender and I really like it - I use the "mini cusiniart" attachment to make most of DD's food - but there is just no way it could handle my smoothie-making habit.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: the one I have has the motor sit on top... so I don't have to wrestle with a heavy pitcher. The blades come out so I can clean it.

@septca: that is the one I use. I bought it for baby food and now use it for a daily smoothie for LO. I do no use ice, but do use frozen fruit. I let the fruit sit out for about 5 minutes, so it is not rock hard. I have been very happy with the size and performance.

It seems like everyone I know is talking about blenders lately! I'm on a 5 day juice cleanse right now and I would love a good blender. Anyone hear anything about the Blendtec? Its cheaper than the Vitamix, but still so expensive.

I've never come in danger of injury with my stick blender but then again I've always had a crappy stick blender! Maybe I will reconsider a regular blender.

@MrsMcD: I've heard good things about Blendtec! See if you can catch them doing a trade-show at Costco. They were doing a demo at my Costco and going for $275 or so.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: i am such an idiot sometimes and I actually almost sliced the tip of my finger off with an immersion blender. That was the first and only time i've ever used mine, which i received as a wedding gift. I'd like to try to use it to make soup.

LOVE my Vitamix -- I make smoothies a lot and it grinds up kale and oranges so I don't notice the pulp. It's also great for soups, you just have to let them cool a bit so they don't explode (for any blender).
@MrsMcD: My friend actually DID slice the tip of her finger off with an immersion blender! Scary!

I make them 1-2 times a week (more in the summer) and use a regular blender. I just wash it right after - or at the very least rinse it. It's kind of annoying but I love that it gets everything really smooth and isn't afraid of ice! A nice blender was one of the few "expensive" items we registered for when we got married.

We just bit the bullet and got a vitamix. Love it so far. It's pretty easy to clean if you rinse it out immediately after use.

One trick for easily washing a blender - put a few drops of soap and some water then turn it on. It gets all the stuff around the blades out. Then you just need to rinse/wash the rest of it. Saves a ton of time!

The Vitamix is one of the best kitchen tools we have all around, we use it daily for smoothies and often for things like soups and sauces. I really did not want to buy one bc they are pricey. Luckily my MIL bought one for us as a Christmas present. Before the Vitamix, we had the Magic Bullet and it was great. My husband keeps it at work now to make smoothies at lunch.

I also have the Vitamix and I LOVE it. Crushes ice cubes quickly and grinds all of your fruits and veggies very finely, so there isn't any pulp or bits of things left over. Super easy to clean too!

We've had other blenders but love our Vitamix! There are never bits of anything in our smoothies...which is important when you're making a green smoothie!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I have the one step up... master prep professional... but I think that one could be fine because I don't actually use the other stuff. It does not work as a food processor the way it says... but blends pretty well. Mine was the $60...

mr bee got me a vitamix for my birthday last year. i always resisted getting one because it was so pricey, but it makes such a difference in the consistency and the kids regularly drink green smoothies now so it's totally been worth it.

I use the cuisinart hand blender. It's great and I use it with ice in smoothies.

@KT326: I used to have a green smoothie for breakfast every day but since it's winter and cold here (e.g. 60 degrees) I've been turning instead to not as cold alternatives.
