For me it felt like a bad hangover; the kind where eating doesn't help and you have to barf...and it doesn't go away the next day! ;p

I think it is different for everyone. How far along would you be @hidingbee???
blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts
Never got it with No. 1. With No. 2 it was almost immediate. Just a low-level UGGGGHHHHH feeling where no food ever sounded good.

@yoursilverlining: YES. My first trimester was like the longest most intense hangover of my life.
GOLD / apricot / 315 posts
It's definitely different for everyone, but I always described it as a low-grade misery. I didn't have full-fledged sickness (no throwing up, etc.) but I definitely felt tired, wasn't interested in food, and just felt sort of slightly queasy a lot.

@mediagirl: Almost 4 weeks? Not entirely sure because it isn't planned. I started feeling exhausted late last week, along w/ some nausea, almost like I low blood sugar/needed to eat something.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@HidingBee: at 4 weeks, I felt cruddy. I couldn't eat without feeling like throwing up. I gagged, but never threw up at 3 weeks. Also, boob pain. They hurt SO badly!!
Oh and 4 weeks, I had a test come up positive.

I think it's different at different times even for the same person!
(But yeah, I think it differs a LOT)
I've had pretty intense morning sickness for all my pregnancies- the best way I can describe it is to compare it to having a really awful hangover when you're exhausted and really nauseated and any little thing (certain smells, sights, noises) could set you off, and all you can think about is whether or not you have to puke this minute or whether you can stay where you are for that minute and then go from there. Sometimes I'll throw up, some days I'll throw up multiple times, but more often I'll just sit around for hours (like at my desk) trying to get stuff done but mainly focusing on whether or not I should bolt for the bathroom.
As a result, I rely pretty heavily on prescription meds (like Zofran) to keep me functional, since they dial back the nausea to "intense but leaves me able to function."
pear / 1837 posts
For me, the nausea has always set in around 6 weeks- I never noticed anything much before that.

@mediagirl: I had sore boobs yesterday, but it went away today (I never have that w/ normal PMS). I'm so confused - haha I can't tell if I'm making myself feels a certain way or not. I plan on testing in a couple days, when my period is actually due.

@MamaMoose: We'll see in a few weeks My doctor even said that today (also based on the heart-rate wive's tale). I told her she should know better and she just laughed at me and smirked about how she had a 50 percent chance of being right!

nausea and not being able to keep food down, weird taste in your mouth and strong gag reflex

Mine was, and has been for 18 weeks, like a constant hangover. FUNNN! Hope you don't get any real morning sickness, just a tad to help you know you're knocked up
grapefruit / 4085 posts
Agreeing that it's different for everyone. For me, it started at about 6 weeks - I would dry heave every morning and just have a general sense of nausea most of the day. I only threw up a few times. But smells also really got to me at this point where I couldn't even hang around in the kitchen.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
From what I read on here, everyone has different experiences.
For me, morning sickness began week 5 and consisted of food aversions, being overwhelmed by smells, nausea, and occasional vomiting. Also I couldn't have any restriction on my stomach, like the waistband of my pants. And I could only eat frequent small portions of food or else it'd come up.
papaya / 10473 posts
Mine was just a really blah yucky feeling that hit me hard at about 6 weeks. No foods sounded good, and I was just exhausted and cranky. Smells got to me so badly.
nectarine / 2765 posts
Like a constant hangover or the flu that never ends. I personally haven't thrown up (dry heaved a ton) but always feel as though I want to barf. Certain foods are absolutely repulsive & others I must have immediately. It started at 5 weeks for me and hasn't gone away at almost three months. Overall, in a word, miserable.
clementine / 957 posts
My previous pregnancy ended somewhat early, around 7-9 weeks but since week 5 (or even earlier) I was feeling nauseated most of the day and had to have some crackers in the morning for my commute to settle my stomach.
This time around I'm 5w2d and I just started feeling some nausea today after lunch. I'm feeling extra exhausted though, so that could be what's making me more sensitive. To curb some nausea, I've been taking a B6 with my pre-natal. Hopefuly this works out for me! I can't stand throwing up!

Mine felt like a really terrible stomach flu...that lasted for 12 weeks. =( Sheer misery.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Mine started right at 6 weeks and like others said, it was like a 3 month long hangover, without ever going out and having fun. Feeling nauseous all the time, but I never actually threw up. I gagged and dry heaved every time I brushed my teeth. I had lots of food aversions and basically only wanted the most processed options available-- like, no fresh grilled chicken breast, I only wanted chicken fingers. And smells... god, the smells. That and I was exhausted all the time.
Thank god, the nausea went away between 13 and 14 weeks and the extreme exhaustion a few weeks after that. Now time is flying by!

With my first it starte dat six weeks; with my second it started at 10 dpo. It feels likes really intense motion sickness to me: head spinning, dizzy, and tired to the point of vomiting.
apricot / 468 posts
Awful, awful nausea and vomiting for me. It started at about 6.5 weeks and lasted through 16/17 weeks with occasional nausea striking in the morning hours through 20-ish weeks. I also had this empty feeling in my stomach a lot too...hard to describe, but it was uncomfortable, and pretty darn annoying. I couldn't stand the sight of certain foods, let alone smells.

Mine started around 6 weeks and was pretty intense. I threw up every. single. morning. when I brushed my teeth. I had horrible food aversions and felt nauseous every time I ate. I also felt really nauseous if I didn't eat frequently enough. It was brutal! Smells were also unbearable. I made DH take all the food out of the fridge because I couldn't stand "refrigerator smell.". Lol. We lived like frat boys for weeks!
grapefruit / 4056 posts
In my case it was an intense feeling of a hangover, but like the worst hangover of your life (and I did some crazy University binge drinking), and vomiting at the sight/sound/smell/thought of random things several times per day.
I had hyper emesis though, and couldn't function without a combination of 4 prescription meds.
ETA: It started at 4 weeks gestation.

My MS started around six-seven weeks? I was sick in the mornings, alright during the day, and then would get sick from about 4 PM on. It felt like I was incapable of functioning normally.
I threw up multiple times a day. Brushing my teeth definitely made me sick in the mornings but a male colleague gave me a tip his wife used to help that - hum while you brush your teeth. It helps a bit. Absolutely nothing sounded appealing to me except for cinnamon rolls, French fries, saltines, and occasionally mashed potatoes. It went away slowly and was completely gone around 15 weeks.

It started at 5 weeks - I just felt hungover, minus the fun. Food didn't sound good, taste good, or smell good. When I was able to choke down food, it didn't sit well in my stomach and I had to fight the urge to vomit. I did a lot of dry heaving and some vomiting. I also had to take prescription anti nausea meds.

I didn't read the comments, but mine started 6 weeks on the dot. It was the constant mouth-watering, about to vomit RIGHTNOWOMG. It was awful. I only avoided it when I was stuffing my face with carbs. Mine lasted my entire pregnancy, and was definitely not only in the morning - was usually worse afternoon/night
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@HidingBee: totally prying but do you want to be pregnant?

Good ol three month hangover However, food makes me feel better. And the crappier the food, the better!
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@sorrycharlie: I felt the same way, only mine kicked in at 7 weeks. And OMG the exhaustion.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
Mine started around 8 weeks and everyday at 11am I felt like a-hole and would throw up. It would come sometimes later in the day too. I just felt really sick to my stomach, like the flu.

Before 4 weeks for me and nausea for 9 weeks straight! I never "let" myself throw up but I felt absolutely terrible!
pineapple / 12566 posts
This is my second pregnancy and I'm just shy of 9 weeks. (I had virtually no morning sickness with baby #1). The hungover feeling started around 4 weeks. While I haven't actually thrown up yet, I have felt like I shouldn't stray far from home on some days. Also, nothing sounds good to eat unless it is bread/carbs. I've felt better the last 2-3 days, so I'm hoping that this morning sickness phase is on it's way out!

@mediagirl: Pry away! I'm just "hiding" here because I'm an active member but I'm not ready to out myself just in case this turns out to be nothing lol. We were hoping to wait a couple more months before really TTC. So, we weren't trying, but we weren't entirely preventing (pull out method).
pomegranate / 3768 posts
It was bad for me starting at 6 weeks. Felt like a hangover every day...tired and nauseous. My coworker said I looked like death. Lol. But don't worry, it passes and its all worth it!
coconut / 8681 posts
With my first it started at 4.5 weeks and just felt like a constant upset stomach. I had to eat frequently or my stomach would rebel. It lasted until about 14 weeks. With my current pregnancy it started at 5 weeks and was a constant low lying nausea that lasted all day long. Nothing sounded good but carbs did help a little. I'm 12 weeks now and I still can't wait too long to eat in the morning or it starts and I can't go a long time (more than 2 hours) without eating something... Even if its just something small. I threw up every morning for weeks 5-14 with #1 and I only threw up 6-8 weeks with #2.

Umm... it felt like being hungover every minute of every day for 9 months. It was very draining, and also makes me never want to drink too much ever again in my entire life. Count yourself lucky if you never have to experience it!
nectarine / 2163 posts
For me this time it started super early, like before 4 weeks. I haven't thrown up yet but I feel like i'm on the verge 24/7. I feel sick if I'm hungry, then as soon as I eat something I feel worse, but still hungry.
I don't know what being hungover is like (I don't drink) but if this is anything like it I'm glad I don't drink!!!
