I wasn't sure where to put this, but the husband recently asked this when I told him I'm taking the plunge and meeting up with a mommy group from Facebook.
So, how safe are Facebook mommy groups? I've been following the girls on there for a month and stalked their facebooks to see that they post pretty frequently. They look like nice, normal people. Has anyone met Facebook moms? How did it go?
We're meeting at the park on Thursday morning. Does that seem like a good plan? (: thanks.

I haven't met Facebook strangers before, but I have met a bunch of HB moms and not gotten raped and murdered.
I think as long as you tell someone where you're going and text them once you are there and safe you'll be ok.

I have met numerous families through craigslist for nanny interviews and they have all gone really well. I make sure we meet in a public place (almost always a starbucks) and my husband always knows where we are and the person's name and anything else I know about them. Everyone has always been super sweet and awesome.
There was one dad who flat out refused to meet me anywhere but at their home and became irate when I said no. That one was a no go for me. I think odds are pretty high things will turn out just fine!

@oliviaoblivia: I always wonder if there's a catfish bee...like in a creepy lifetime movie where they have a secret identity and meet up with a mom for a "play date" and really it's to steal their baby!
@Cole: I'm having the husband take me and hang out until I meet the moms, like have him hang out nearby. Juuuuust to be sure since it's the first time (: I'm excited, since we just moved to the area and have yet to meet anyone nearby. I'm glad to know normal people exist online too (:

Oh, geez. Now THAT freaked me out, waiting to steal a baby!
I've met one mom IRL but we were in the same DDC and our kids were 2 when they met.lol She is really nice and I consider her a friend.

I think because it's a group of a few moms, you'll be fine! Even if one was a catfish crazy person, at least the majority of the group would be there to hang out. It wouldn't be like hungry hungry hippos with one crazy catfish hippo stealing all your babies or anything lol. I think groups, and public places, are the key for first meetups!

As long as you meet in a group in daytime at public place you'll likely be fine.

I've met up with moms from a Meetup group and HB and it was great. Definitely take precautions like tell your DH where you are going and meet in a public place.

I've met a bunch of moms on my local FB group! No problems yet! I think so long as you meet in a public place you'll be fine

I've meet runners through blogs, and done numerous meet-ups... Even flown across country to meet strangers for races... I think mommy groups are probably genuine people

I've never had any issues and have met in parks, etc.! I probably wouldn't go to a stranger's house for a playdate until I'd met them.

So I met up with another HB member in my area, her DH joked that it would be like catfish! But you never really know. Luckily, we had mutual FB friends and all was good it kind of felt like online dating though! Haha.

I've gone to a couple of different meet-up groups now and they've been great! And thankful the bees I've met so far IRL have all been awesome!

@birdofafeather: samesies. just went to a mommy group in the new city we moved to (where I know NO ONE) and it was great. We met at one mom's house instead of a park because the weather was bad... there were 7 of us. None of them were any crazier than any of my IRL friends. Maybe not saying much, but they were definitely not a threat

Have been to a couple HB meetups and met ladies from a FB group amd no catfishes yet. Though DH is pretty convinced someone must be!
