I didn't really have a theme. The theme was colors I guess. I did everything in red, blue, yellow & green. I posted a ton of pics yesterday of his party. I had wanted to hang streamers too but ran out of time.

@Mrs. Blue: Can you pick a loose theme based off their birth month? Like spring/summer? I couldn't even pick a theme for my wedding so I just chose a color palette.
Colors are easy and fun. Make it more specific by doing something like polka dots, stripes or chevron.
It's hard for 1st birthdays because they don't have any interests yet!

Rainbow colors (but with fuchsia and turquoise instead of red and blue) and polka dots!

Very Hungry Caterpillar. Let me see if I can find a photo of the giant caterpillar I made of tissue poms.

Ladybugs. Totally not boy friendly but I felt like sharing anyways.

Vintage Carnival, I found the idea on Pinterest and thought it would be cute and easy to pull together.

@Mrs. Blue: what about a twin theme?? Two peas in a pod? With St Patty near by you could score some good green items!

We're doing the same type of idea but more of a rainbow theme. DD was born during Hurricane Sandy (quite the birth story), so we're celebrating the "rainbow after the storm!" No pictures yet as it is this weekend.

@Mrs. Blue: heck yes that's close enough!!

@Mrs. Blue: I think I am going to do a Sprinkles theme, DH won't care. I figure can get different colored streamers and balloons, so it should be easy to do. At least in my head. I have to start planning, cause there are going to be too many people coming.

For boys I like the little man theme, which might be overdone right now...but still cute!!!! (:

We are going to do an owl theme in pink and turquoise...The invites and decor are going to have a girly little owl and are going to say "Look WHOOO'S turning ONE!"

We are going to do vintage race car theme.

@Mrs. Blue: I've started planning this too! I'm debating over two themes, a lil' man mustache theme or a pinwheels theme. Very different, but I think both lends itself to lots of decor ideas. With the pinwheels, I can do lots of bright rainbow colors so that should be easy to do. The mustache theme is very popular right now, but I think mustache straws, necktie sugar cookies, and stuff like that would be really cute for a lil' boy.

I get my inspiration from Etsy. I usually just start browsing first birthday banners, see something I like, then go from there.

we are doing an under the sea/mermaid theme! here are my inspiration pics!

I'm planning on doing a retro robot theme. Mainly because the monthly onesie stickers I got Xander have robots on them, so I can display those pictures as part of my decor! Here's some inspiration pictures (and I'll probably use the etsy shop to get some of the decor too):

We did a very loose colors theme--I used paper garlands, a banner, and tissue poms in orange, navy, teal, and white.

A very loose rainbow color theme. We did clear plates and cups with black chevron napkins and black chevron straws, everything else was a primary color. We also had clear plastic wear and crystal cake trays. So, I tried to keep it adult themed almost? But then again, we didn't have kids there; just family and no one has kids but us.
