@Mamaof2: At least when I was younger, Nebraska law allowed you to work starting at 14 with a limited amount of hours per week and I couldn't work past a certain time. I also wasn't allowed to use the grill.

@Mamaof2: it was a paper route in a small town in the Midwest...I'm not sure what the laws were then (was around '91), perhaps it was allowed with parents permission? I delivered in the afternoons & early sat mornings. I really enjoyed it : )

@Mamaof2: it's different in every state! In my state you can work at any age if it's a family business. And you can work at 14 with limited hours. You can work layer once you're 16.
I was 16 when I got my first job and it was at a pizzeria! It was terrible! But I had done concession stand work before that during baseball season when I was 14, and worked the state fair pronto pup stand when I was 12 with my mom. It wasn't a permanent job though.

I was a cashier at a grocery store too. It was all local high school kids, and we all worked at one of two stores. We called ourselves the grocery store mafia and would dance around like in West Side Story.
We were nerdy band kids and had way too much fun sometimes.
