We live in an apartment, and bought two window units from the previous tenant. It's getting hot... hopefully they will keep the apartment cool! Unfortunately though, the window units are in the main living room and the master bedroom... so the kids' bedroom don't have any a/c units at all. We'll find out soon if that's ok or a disaster!
What's your a/c situation?

We have central air.. I honestly prefer windows to be open, as long as there is no humidity!

We have one window unit for our bedroom and a portable a/c unit in the living room. Our apartment is actually super cold right now and we barely used the a/c last summer. One benefit to having a small apartment with not many windows. We are also in the section of our building with a couple of big trees outside.

We have a large AC unit in the living room...we just upgraded it last year from the 1971 original unit made by FORD. We also have an AC unit in the master bedroom. The other bedrooms do get warm. I won't leave the windows open at night because we live in a ranch. I need my alarm system on!
ETA - we need central air. We upgraded our electrical panel so it's ready for it. Now we just need the money for central air.

We currently don't have any A/C. We are moving apartments at the end of the month, so we'll see if we need to get a unit or some fans.

We have central air. And we totally use it. I'm hot natured and such a baby when it comes to heat.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: same! Nothing as lovely as fresh air. I always hold off on using the A/C for as long as possible.. unfortunately DH doesn't like not using it He doesn't like hot weather like I do.
We have central air in our apartment - but being in an apartment it's naturally a littler warmer than a house would be. I also prefer windows open - and this year I plan to get a few fans to put in the windows to circulate the air better. It isn't cheap using the A/C!

We have central air. It gets really hot here in the summer so we definitely use it all summer. We live on the ground floor of our apartment building so we can't really leave the windows open.

@Mrs. Pen: we do that too! We put a box fan at our patio door and it helps cool the whole house. I wish we had an attic fan so we could run that, too!

@Pumuckl: I was so surprised when most of the hotels I stayed at in Ireland didn't have AC! It was hot too but I think it was hotter than usual when I visited. I'd love to go to Germany one day!

We don't have air con at home - like @Pumuckl: , it's rare for people to have a/c at home here.
@swedishfish: I went to Berlin a few years back. It's an amazing city and I'd go back in an instant! DH has been to Hamburg and he loved it so much, in fact he has just said that if he had to choose another European country to live in it would be Germany.

@swedishfish: I guess we usually don't have too many hot days and the nights usually cool down so it is mostly bearable. You should definitely come visit one day. Lots of cool things to see.

a broken central a/c unit! lol. we live in the south and air unit isn't optional at all!! We have to call the repair guy Monday, we put it off last week since it was in the 70s and bearable with the ceiling fans going, but it's not feeling so great now that it's in the 80s.

We have central air, however with our old house it doesn't make it upstairs so last summer it averaged 89 up there with AC on. We are getting new windows so hopefully that helps a little.

We have central air, but luckily our house stays pretty cool so I can keep the windows open most days. But I like it cold when I'm sleeping so I usually turn it on at night.

We don't have any yet, but I'm super excited because we are replacing our 30 year old furnace with a heat pump/furnace split system next week! Can't wait to be able to not have a super hot upstairs during the summer.

We have central a/c. I like windows open but close them at night and upstairs it's not enough. It's our first time having central a/c and besides the dry air we love it!

We have central air, but honestly, don't have to use it all that often. It don't get into the 90's but a handful of times each summer and when it's in the 80's I find that a cross breeze with the windows open works just as well.

We have central AC. It has only been on for a few hours so far this year. I would like to have it on more than it has been, but Sweetie complains sbout being too cold even if I set it as 77 or. 78.
I'm not sure how that works given that Sweetie is the one who only wants the heat on 63 in the winter...

Central AC with two units - 1 for upstairs and 1 for down. It's already been in the 90s a couple days and with +90% humidity! AC is not an option.

We have central air. We also have sliding doors at opposite ends of the apartment. The livingroom has a Juliet balcony, and both bedrooms open onto the fire escape. (We are on the top floor so we use our fire escape as a little terrace.). So, we have good cross ventilation when it's cool enough to open the doors.

Central air- Been using it for the past 2 months on and off, and today is probably the last day we aren't using it as it is getting really hot from here on out

Central air - used it for the first time today! Our upstairs gets so hot, and we can't open LOs windows because the neighbours upstairs smoke all the time. Poor thing was soaking after her nap!

@mrbee: Do the kids rooms have windows? DS's room didn't have an AC in it when we moved in (in fact, no one in our line has an AC in that room) but we actually installed one before he was born because we had an overnight visitor staying there and it was way too hot to sleep without AC. Otherwise our visitor would have had to sleep in the living room!

we have central air & we do use it, but we try to hold off as long as possible. we're on the top floor of a small apartment building though, it gets hot up here! we have ceiling fans in our living room and dining room and those help.

We have Mitsubishi Mini Splits...each room has one and can be independently controlled...one room warm, one cooler. Love them!

We just moved from a rental with central air to a big old house with no a/c!! The sellers left us a big window unit and we've been buying units off of Craigslist for the past month (anything nearly new under $50!). We actually just installed them today because it hit 80 degrees. So far so good, and I actually prefer controlling each room's temp better than cooling the whole house with central air! So far, that is.
