I don't feel as badly about eating it. My general philosophy is to eat "regular" nitrite-y stuff rarely because that shit will kill you pregnant or not. The nitrite free stuff isn't a staple but in moderation I feel fine about eating it personally.

Your body will treat natural and chemical nitrate/nitrite exactly the same. It is misleading for brands like Applegate to tout their products as having no added nitrates because the nitrate/nitrite in celery juice is just as bad for you, and bad for infants

I don't really think its any different. I thought the no sandwich meat thing was based on listeria risk anyway though so do the nitrates even matter with regards to that risk?

@Beyond2: not if you heat it up! But I think the preservatives bother people in general.
