For example, if I'm 11w3d and someone asks, I never know if I should say 11 weeks or 12 weeks. What do/did you say?
When asked how far along you are, do you say the week you've completed or the week you are in?

I used to round to whatever week I was closer to! Saturday's are my milestone day, so on like Wednesday of each week I would start rounding up to the next one in my head or if anyone asked!!
Once I got closer to 30w I stopped doing that and always said what milestone I had already hit, perhaps I was in denial how quickly time was going at that point

I say the number of weeks I have completed. So in your example I would say I'm 11 weeks.

I would say the number of weeks I had completed but if I was a day or two from my switchover day then I would round up. Now when people ask I say how many weeks I have left. I'm 36 weeks today but if someone asks me on Tuesday how far along I am I will round up and say I have 3 weeks left.

I round up or down depending on where in the week I am. But I find when people ask how many months I am that it gets confusing - I'm done with my sixth month, but due in just over four...

@oliviaoblivia: I also get so confused when people ask me how many months I am! Because everyone assumes pregnancy is 9 months but it's really 10 months!

@oliviaoblivia: @MamaMoose: Well technically it is 9 months, because some months have more or less days. For instance the first day of my lmp was Dec 20..so Dec to Jan, Jan to Feb etc gives me 9 months at September 20...& I'm due Sept 25
I also give how many weeks I've completed or round if I'm close!

i just round up or round down. so for you, i'd say 11 weeks
for months, now i count back from my due date. So Nov 1 is my due date and that would be 9 months, so today, i'm about 7.5 months along. but earlier in the pregnancy when i was closer to the conception date, then i'd count forward from the date of LMP. So i think mine was Jan 25...if someone asked me on Apr 25, i'd say 3 months.

I could have literally said anything, most people ask but aren't really going to remember the facts anyway. I bet I could have said things like "banana" with the blank stares I got!

In your example, for someone knowledgeable I would say 11 weeks, otherwise I would say "just about 3 months" because people that don't know much about pregnancy seem to have a better understanding of that.

I always round up. I'm showing a lot so it makes me feel better. I'm 18 weeks now so I've been saying 'just about halfway through!' haha.

I've always gone with the week I've completed. So for example, I'm 35w5d today so I'd say I'm 35 weeks.

I round up or say I'll be xx on xx date. Like when people asked me on Friday how far along I was, I'd say "5 months on sunday" (and I started using months rather than weeks because people stare at me blankly when I give them the week lol).

I started saying the month because people don't seem to "get" weeks.

I round to the closest week. Or sometimes I will just make a general estimate like at 14-15 weeks I'd say "around 3 1/2 months". People get confused by the weeks, heck, even we all do and we're the pregnant ones! lol!

I say the week that I am in...I find that the month thing is confusing, because right now I am in my 8th month, but if I say that to people, they think I am 8 full months pregnant. SO I just do weeks, or I say "I'm due in October!" lol.

I usually just say about how many months. I learned early on that most people, including DH, cannot process weeks anyway. I would tell him how many weeks, and then someone would ask him how far along I was, and he would get all jumbled and give really scientific answers like, "She's in her first mester." So we had to make it easier for him and I noticed that it made sense to regular people too.
So right now, I'm just over 28 weeks, and so I'll say 7 months. When I hit 29 weeks, I'll start saying "about 7.5 months" and will stick with that for a while:)

@hilsy85: Yeah that is true...I'll say 7 months, and then people are like "Oh! Just 2 more months!" But it's actually a little under 3 more months, so then I have to explain that - and it can get exhausting. But if I say "28 weeks," then people will say "how many months is that?" So basically it's a catch-22!

@jholler25: Same here! I stay vague and go by months. About six months, over seven months, etc.. I figure it's not an exact science, and only recent moms are interested in the weeks anyway.

In your case, I'd say "i'm 11 weeks". Because you aren't quite 12 yet--you can say you're "almost 12". But I consider saying, "i'm 12 weeks" to say you've surpassed the 12-week mark. If i'm shy by one day, I may round up...
I always get SUPER confused by those stupid apps that send me 12 week notifications when i hit 11 weeks, though!

Just out of curiosity, has weeks always been the standard? Trying to figure out why the general public seems to be so unfamiliar with it.

It depends when in the week I am but I usually round up! I'm 35w4d now but if someone asked me I'd say 36
