We saw the heartbeat via ultrasound at our 8 week appointment, but didn't hear it until our 10 week appointment. Then it was via a doppler on my stomach in the regular exam room, not an ultrasound.

I saw it at our 7 week ultrasound but didn't hear it until after 12 weeks!

We saw via ultrasound and heard our baby’s heartbeat at 7w3d. I know that by Doppler it is usually longer before you can hear it…it’s easier to hear it earlier by U/S.

We heard and saw the heartbeat at 6w3d via a transvaginal ultrasound. A week later, we had a followup because I had some bleeding and they did an abdominal ultrasound (7w4d) and we saw and heard the heartbeat again.

ETA we heard it by Doppler for the first time last week, I was 11w3d and visited the doctor for a suspected bladder infection and she pulled out the Doppler in the exam room, but it took a minute for her to find it.

Saw HB at 10 week ultrasound, heard at 14 week visit.

@Adira: I would call back and check since it sounds like they told you two different things, especially if your husband took off from work for it.

We didn't hear the heartbeat until 12 weeks but we saw it on our ultrasound at 8 weeks. I would think it would be normal to get a transvaginal ultrasound at your first appointment, but maybe not?

@Adira: i had an exam, pap, and the works at my 8 week appointment, and they also did a transvaginal ultrasound. we were able to see the little peanut bopping around and saw his/her little heartbeat flickering in his/her chest. we also heard the heartbeat loud and clear. i don't think it would hurt to ask for the transvaginal ultrasound. it's really quick, and being able see and hear the heartbeat is so reassuring. plus you get pictures! hey, you're paying for it, after all!

We tried the doppler at my 9 week appointment and couldn't hear it. Fortunately we had an ultrasound just before, so we knew everything was ok and heard it that way. My next appointment wasn't until 13 weeks and we could hear it then on the doppler.

It depends on the equipment they have. I first heard and saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks 4 days, but this was at the perinatal department at the hospital. Their machines are much more sophisticated. My OB also has an ultrasound machine in her office but it wont pick up heartbeat sounds that early.

We heard it at our 10 week u/s. He had to turn something on the u/s machine for us to hear it and see it on the little graph thing.

@Adira: That stinks! Maybe they will surprise you and you will get one after all.
