I just made my first pre-natal appt for 8 weeks, and they told me I won't be having my first u/s until week 12 because I don't have any risk history. I'm a bit bummed as I was hoping to see (if there is) a heartbeat closer to week 8. I don't know if this is something I can talk my doctor into or what.. anyone have experience pushing for an early u/s?

I had a transvaginal dating u/s at 8 weeks.

I hated having to wait until 12 weeks but it was TOTALLY worth it. You see soooo much more anyways!

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks 4 days. It varies from doctor to doctor, it was nice and reassuring to see the baby at that stage but honestly I dont think its "necessary"

My first u/s was scheduled at 7weeks. I ended up getting one at 6w2d due to some spotting, and also kept my 7week ultrasound appt. I would rip my hair out if they thought I was going to wait until 12 weeks. I'd probably threaten to jump practices.

I had my first appointment at 8 weeks, and we didn't even get to hear the heart rate. Our OB said that even at 8 weeks it can be difficult to hear the heart rate, so she doesn't like to try because it freaks people out too much to not hear it. So I had zero "hard evidence" of this kid until our first ultrasound at 12 weeks for the sequential screening. It was rough, but worth it, because at 12 weeks I actually knew what the heck I was looking at. Any earlier and I would have been Rachel on Friends - "I don't see it! I'm gonna be a terrible mother! I can't even see my own baby!"

My first was the NT scan at 12 weeks. Which is pretty standard for a non-high risk pregnancy around here. If we opted out of the NT it would have been 20 weeks.

We had ultrasounds at 8, 12 and 20 weeks. The baby just looked like a little gummy bear at 8 weeks. While I was glad to see it, you'll see tons more at 12!

We had one at 8wks, but it wasn't planned and they gave it to us because of a previous m/c. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten one until my NT scan at 13 weeks.
No experience with asking to push it up, because the NP offered before I could...but it never hurts to ask!

I had a dating u/2 at 8w5d and will have a second (and last) u/s around 20 weeks. Tough to wait, I know!

Wow, thanks everyone! I'm going to push it and see if he'll give me one.. after having coffee with a friend yesterday who m/c at 12 weeks and the u/s that day showed NOTHING, she is still upset they didn't give her one at 8 weeks (it probably would have shown way behind already). It made me a bit nervous.
The nurse said she can't 'know' if he'll agree to do one that day or not, so I think I'll just have to push and see what happens. Waiting 2 more weeks for an u/s seems a LOT more reasonable than waiting 6 more stinkin' weeks!

I had one at 7w5d, they called it a viability us. I would want one at 8 weeks too. 12 does seem too long to have to wait.

Transvaginal u/s at 8 weeks, and then an NT scan at 12 weeks.

My first pregnancy it wouldn't have been until I think 12+ weeks. I eventually had an early one because of spotting though.
For my second pregnancy I went to a new practice and they do an early dating u/s. They normally schedule them for 6 weeks or so, but they pushed mine to 8 weeks. They figured because I had a miscarriage it'd be more comforting to see a heartbeat and more developed baby/gummy bear.

I got one at 8 weeks for viability because of a prior miscarriage. If I wasn't high risk I wouldn't have had one until 12.

What, no u/s at 8 weeks?!?! I've never known anyone who didn't get one at their first appointment! Although some of my friends didn't even get an appointment until 10, 11 weeks.
Bah. I feel for you. I know if you have any spotting, they usually give you one to take a look. I had to ask for an extra one at one point, but they totally obliged me.

My option wasn't on here! we had an u/s at 6w5d (so i guess I could've prob voted 7!). it was vaginal but we could see our little one and hear his heartbeat!

I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks, but only because I had bleeding, so they were checking for viability. Normally I wouldn't have gotten one until 12 weeks (IF I chose to do the First Trimester Screening - otherwise I wouldn't get one until 20ish weeks!).

I was told I don't even get to see a doctor until 12 weeks. She didn't even tell me (on the phone) if I get an U/S at that appointment. She did tell me I could see a nurse at 8 weeks, so I'm going to do that and ask if there'll be a 12 week ultrasound or what.

I was scheduled for a dating u/s at 6 weeks but I went in at 5 weeks by choice because I had spotting. I was nervous it was ectopic, they told me I could come in for peace of mind or just wait it out. There was only a sac at that point but it put my mind at ease and we got to see the heartbeat the next week at 6 weeks!

My first doctor said 12 weeks. I was not happy about that because it aeemed late to me. When I finally got into the doctor I wanted to see, they sent me to a dating and viability u/s at 8 weeks. I would try to talk a lot about how I'm feeling super nervous & stressed about whether everything is okay/risk of miscarriage. Maybe they'll agree to an earlier one then.

My doctor didn't plan to do one until the 18-20 week anatomy scan unless you opted for the NT. I saw the nurse practitioner at my first vist ~8.5 weeks and I requested an u/s to "confirm" the pregnancy. She basically told me that they only do that if you are spotting or cramping and essentially told me to say I was cramping. I did and got my u/s. it was so reassuring to see that heartbeat!

I had a dating U/S at 7 weeks. It looked like a blob. It was more exciting to hear he heartbeat at 11w

With LO 1 we went in at 6 weeks and all we could really see was the yolk sac. Doc had us come in at 8 weeks to see that things were on target because we were going on a long trip. With LO 2 we went in at 7 weeks to confirm the pregnancy and we could already hear the heartbeat.

I will only be having one as well, at 20 weeks. I'm in Canada and low risk.

I voted "earlyish" because my doctor has a transvaginal ultrasound machine in his office. He also had the regular machine, so every visit had a scan.

I had one at 6/7 weeks due to spotting - they did a transvaginall to make sure everything was ok. Then I went at 12 weeks.

Most GPs in the UK wont even see you for the blood test until you're 8 weeks. The first ultrasound scan happens around 12 weeks. I intend to have a breakdown in the doctor's office and beg for one sooner, when my time comes!
