Oh my goodness.
DD has always been an easy child... until now. The last month or so (she's almost 17 months) every time we try to dress her, change her diaper, or wash her hair in the bath, it's an epic meltdown. Cue screaming and crying like we're absolutely torturing her. Please tell me this stops??? Or does it only get worse?

I would like to pull out the possible "maybe she's teething?" card.
It seems like very drastic change from what she was like before. LO is usually super easy going and sometimes he gets super crazy meltdowns IF he's teething or sick.

I can neither endorse nor deny this, but I will say that they don't call 'em "three-nagers" for no reason..... so does it get better? yup! I'm assuming that happens at like, 18ish? Maybe, 25?

It ebbs and flows has been my experience. I hope this is just a short spurt. As communication improves I find that behavior does a bit too. It also helps for us to acknowledge the feelings our son is having.

My DD is 16 months and she is so difficult to change. She literally kicks with all her might during changes and poopy diapers have become stressful

J is 19 months, and things have taken a turn for the worse recently, behavior-wise. At the same time, he really funny and learning a lot, so I swing wildly every day between feeling like this is my favorite age and feeling like he is a holy terror. I don't think it gets easier for quite awhile, unfortunately

I also find it comes and goes. Definitely doesn't go away entirely (I wish!), but we have good days and bad days.

Waves for us at 26 months or so. He gets tough when he's tired. The past couple of mornings have been a fight too. He's potty training and having another language explosion. Changes always result in acting out to the world around him.

Right there with ya at 19 months, so I have no advice. I hear when they're married with children, there are less tantrums!?!? I could be misinformed, though.

@NurseMommy: hugs. At 19m, we use huggies slip ons for diaper changes and just hand over the iPhone for getting dressed. It works.

at 23 1/2 months, we're getting some really good rehearsal time in for the terrible twos. It comes and goes but all in all, it can be pretty tough. The theme of what brings on the meltdowns has changed from 17 months but they're still here. The one benefit (so far, at least) is that each "phase" of this difficult behavior has been relatively short lived. Sometimes there's a break before the next resistant stage. Good luck! It's not easy but I also hear that we might miss these days... When the teenaged meltdowns begin, that is!

Oh great.... I guess this is why people have their kids close together?! A few months ago I was like "this is the greatest thing ever! Let's have 20!!!" and now I'm reconsidering even a second!

Ugh, L was the same - such a great kid, so easy going, and then BAM epic tantrums and attitudes and whining. She's starting to whine less now at 21 months since she can talk a little better, but her tantrums are still painful

It hit us at 16 months, and I'm at 24 months now and it's only getting worse. She has her good days and her bad days, the extremes are crazy. We just have to take a LOT of deep breathes and stay calm when she's going crazy.

I like how people are saying it stops at 4.
5 year old are insane and 11 year olds start getting hormonal. It never ends. NEVAR.

@NurseMommy: It sounds kind of crazy, but around 15 months I started narrarating everything that we were going to do ahead of time, and I really feel like it curbed the worst of the tantrums.
Like, "OK, say bye-bye to your toothbrush, and then we will change your diaper...
Now we are changing your diaper and then it's time to put on clothes...
Can you find your shoes for mommy?" Things like that... -
@dagret: I agree! I started doing this too, and he seems less likely to throw a fit if I tell him what we're about to do. It's not a guarantee but I do feel like it's helped a bit!

@.twist.: I was just going to say....my son has been challenging since his birth, 18 months was the peak of fussy, until he turned 2...wowza. It's not ever completely stopped, but there are moments when it subsides for a bit.

@.twist.: My nearly 7 year old nephews seem insane to me. I can't wait for that! They seemed crazy when they were younger. We're getting tastes of that with morning tantrums over loveys in the bathroom and car.

It got better when she was potty trained at 27 months but she still has fits about picking her clothes and sunscreen

Just turned 2 here and I got a giant kick in the gut this morning from him while I was trying to change his diaper. I've gotten some good ab exercises in while trying to change him.

My DD was so easy and chill her first year and early toddlerhood has been a doozy for me. Right before 18 months was really hard and it was because she had very few words and while she could understand us, she couldn't communicate. Now that she has more words at 21 months, I can understand her more and I don't get as frustrated when she loses it.

18-24 months was the worst. It got a lot easier after that, when she started talking more.
Good luck. Just keep telling yourself that it's always a phase and it'll pass eventually.

Months 18-24 were the toughest with LO #1, and Months 12-18 were hardest with LO #2.I personally loved the 3's - I really like it when they are more verbal and can communicate better, but it also comes with it's own form of crazy bc they get tricky at that age too!

I don't think it ever stops - it just gets different from one phase to the next.
Around 18-20 months, we had a lot of tantrums. When we started offering choices (so LO felt like she was in control), things got a lot better. Instead of saying "lets put on your PJs" we say "do you want to put on your shirt or pants first?"

Well I'm screwed because my daughter started freaking out about diaper changes and clothing changes at about 6 months (she's only 8 months!)
