Given up soda, coffee, alcohol or any other vices in preparation for getting pregnant?
Did you imbibe right up to BFP (drink til it's pink mentality)?
Did you drink soda or coffee while pregnant and through out your pregnancy?

Drank everything until BFP.
Switched to decaf in first tri (because I was paranoid) and now I'm back to one coffee every morning, sometimes a tea in the afternoon. I just keep it under 200mg of caffeine a day.
I don't drink alcohol while pregnant.

I drank coffee and through TTC, BFP and pregnancy, just limited the amount of caffeine I would have every day. I don't drink, so that wasn't an issue.

I continued to drink coffee/tea and the occasional soda throughout pregnancy and just tried to not have too much caffiene. I stopped drink alcohol when we started trying.

I don't drink coffee, but I kept drinking tea right through pregnancy, I just limited caffeinated tea to one cup a day. I hardly ever have pop but if I wanted one I still had one. As to alcohol, I cut back a lot - I gave up my nightly glass of wine - but I still had the occasional glass once I got out of the first trimester.

I didnt vote....i cut back to pregnancy rules from the start of the tww. I drank the allowed amt of caffeine throughout pregnancy, but no alcohol. I treated the tww as if i was pregnant.

I voted wrong - I never gave up coffee/tea/soda during TTC, pregnancy or BF but I did give up alcohol

Your poll choices are tough.
I didn't give up during TTC, but I gave up alcohol once pregnant.

I drank and ate everything while TTC. After getting my BFP I kept drinking soda and coffee (I never drink more than one cup per day, anyway, unless it's a really bad day!). I completely gave up alcohol for the first tri and then limited to one per week (slowly on a full stomach) in the second and third tri.

I voted other. I drank everything till I got my BFP. Once I did then I didn't drink alcohol but I still drank Diet Coke every day.

I drank coffee, tea and soda all throughout NTNP and my pregnancies but didn't drink alcohol except for very special events (like New Year's).

I drank what I liked when I liked up to my BFP and then cut down to max 2 coffee/tea/coke a day and the occasional glass of wine through pregnancy.

I drank until it was pink with both girls, I still drank an occasional pop/caffeine while pregnant but not alcohol. I think I had a few sips of my DH's here and there and a handful of NA drinks but it wasn't in my palette either pregnancy.

I drank whatever until my BFP, then had a coke pretty much every day during the first trimester...no caffeine is a migraine trigger for me, and coffee made me sick. After the first trimester I had a cup of coffee every day. I had the occasional half glass or wine or a few sips of D's beer after that.

I drank coffee/soda/tea throughout my pregnancy.
Alcohol, I drank during the TWW and gave it up once I had a BFP.

I am definitely more of a "drink til it's pink" kind of girl. I had a few sips of wine here and there during pregnancy as well. My OB/GYN is German and she said a bit of alcohol here and there is fine for baby. I am currently pregnant again and drinking some coffee. I limit to one cup a day while pregnant but didn't limit before BFP.
nectarine / 2466 posts
I was the same as @Adira. I think your poll might be off as you combined caffeine and alcohol together after a BFP.
pear / 1593 posts
Didn't give up anything while TTC; cut back from 3-4 cups of coffee to 1-2 cups during pregnancy; still take sips of DH's beers and daydream about having my own again!
honeydew / 7463 posts
I drank everything up to the BFP. And then moderation after. Coffee made me nauseous in the first tri (even smelling it) but once I got over that I had a cup a day, sometimes decaf sometimes regular. Depended on my mood.
I had a coke occasionally, but I definitely cut back.
I had 2 glasses of wine on my babymoon. We were in Italy, enough said.

I don't drink alcohol, so that doesn't apply. But, I drank coffee, tea, and soda during TTC, while pregnant, and I'm nursing at 11 months and haven't given it up. I had hyperemseis, and the only thing I could tolerate was dark soda!

I was on vacation during TWW so I drank more alcohol than I usually did and it was a BFP! I abstained all during pregnancy.

I never gave up caffeine before I got pregnant or during pregnancy. I don't drink soda every day but I don't have a problem with drinking 1 or 2 a week. I drank coffee throughout my first pregnancy. This one I am only 10 weeks and the smell makes me sick so no coffee but I'll have a soda for a pick me up. I drank alcohol until I got my BFP. After the first trimester I occasionally had a 1/2 glass of wine (maybe once a month if I had to average it) after dinner with lots of water. Mostly it was on the holidays (thanksgiving-new years). I am pregnant again and I might occasionally have some but I am only 10weeks and still in the nausea stage so none for me thanks.

The first time we were TTC, I gave up alcohol during the 2WW, but since then, I have not (however, I rarely drink alcohol anyway so I think there was only one pregnancy where I actually drank anything during the 2WW anyway).
I always give up alcohol while pregnant, and I never give up coffee or soda, however I try to limit myself to 1-2 per day.

I didn't drink alcohol during my first trimester, but otherwise everything else in moderation. Also in general I don't drink coffee, I prefer tea.

With my first we were trying and I cut way back on caffeine prior to bfp because I didn't want to have withdrawal if I couldn't stomach coffee in the first trimester- which was the case, the thought of it made me nauseous. I would have coke or iced tea occasionally though. Drank moderate amounts of alcohol until my bfp.
My second we were not trying or expecting this so I drank caffeine and alcohol up to my bfp. Continued drinking the max allowed amount of caffeine because I had a toddler who did not care if I was tired.
pear / 1648 posts
I voted that I imbibed til BFP, but I did allow myself a small diet soda or a small chai latte (or half-caff latte) while pregnant. I wasn't interested in coffee until well into the second trimester, though.

I've never been much of a drinker, so I didn't have anything to give up there. I kept drinking as usual while TTC and pregnant: One to two drinks at weddings, special occasions and on NYE.
When I started TTC I began cutting back my caffeine intake to a level I was comfortable continuing while pregnant. I didn't want my first few days of knowing I was pregnant to be defined by horrific caffeine withdrawal. I cut back a smidge more once I actually was pregnant.

Not going to lie, I got a faint bfp the morning of my friends wedding and still drank. I was still days away from missing my period. So yeah definitely don't give up coffee or soda during pregnancy. I also am comfortable with a little wine here and there.

I drank alcohol and tea in moderation while TTC (no soda because my acupuncturist had me on a low glycemic index diet due to my DOR). With my acupuncturist's diet plan, I was allowed a couple glasses of red wine on the weekends (no beer or mixed drinks that had a high sugar content), which I stopped when I got my positive. My tea consumption was steady throughout TTC and pregnancy. I have two cups of black tea a day.
watermelon / 14467 posts
I drank soda/tea all the way through my last pregnancy (we tried for that one) and am still drinking it through this one (surprise baby). I don't drink alcohol at all, maybe one drink every year or so.
nectarine / 2951 posts
I don't drink soda anyway, but I cut back on caffeine while TTC. I think I drank a cup of half-caf coffee per day during my TWW and during my first trimester. Now I don't have any caffeinated coffee, and rarely have a decaf coffee. I don't drink alcohol while pregnant. For me it's just not worth it, especially since it's only 10 months of my life.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
I drank everything until BFP then gave up alcohol. I gave up caffeine because I had massive aversions to it but once they went I let myself have a small ice coffee a day and a few cups of tea.
pomegranate / 3127 posts
I gave up alcohol when I knew I'm pregnant, but drank tea and coffee and decaf soda to the last. I drink weak coffee anyway, it was nowhere near the recommended limit. It was fine till week 38 - then the coffee started giving me heart palpitations and I figured it's time to stop.
honeydew / 7917 posts
I'm not a soda drinker and went for the decaf option for coffee throughout my pregnancy. I don't drink caffeine on a regular basis.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
Gave up alcohol beginning during the week of ovulation, continue to abstain throughout pregnancy. Didn't drink coffee regularly during the first tri- maybe once a week, began drinking it daily in the second tri- I have about two cups a day. I don't drink any other caffeine.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
For my first pregnancy I gave up coffee during the TWW and through the first/most of the second trimesters. Then I was getting horrible headaches and caffeine helped. I also gave up alcohol until my third trimester, I had a small glass of champagne on New Years and a small glass of wine the week before I delivered.
This pregnancy (I'm 5.5 weeks now) I didn't give up anything during the TWW and I'm still drinking one cup of coffee per day. Sometimes two. I'm so exhausted it's the only way I can get through my day.

With my first pregnancy I was so blissfully clueless.. I knew nothing of what I know today. Through my pregnancy I gave up all alcohol, but I drank coffee the whole time, I drank diet coke (in moderation, but I saw it as my treat) and during the two week wait - oof! I drank wine most nights with dinner, and had at least two party nights where I drank at least 3 drinks, and smoked pot.. NOW?! Now I have given up coffee even when we are in the BD'ing mode. I BARELY drink alcohol, I have my husband on limited alcohol, and I wouldn't touch a diet soda with a 10 foot pole.. Truthfully, I am not sure if all this is helping or possibly hurting my TTC this time around.. I am torn.. I feel like maybe I need to take a load off, and relax a bit.. But I can't "un-know" all the information I have read. And once you have a MC, it's scary to consider maybe your life choices played into it.. It does feel nice though, living such a clean lifestyle..

I think a lot of people would continue to drink caffeine but would give up alcohol after BFP.
kiwi / 631 posts
I gave up alcohol after my BFP (except for one glass of wine very late in my pregnancy), but drank up until then, including a drink or two when I was about 4 weeks and I *knew*
I was probably pregnant but hadn't tested yet. I cut down on soda and caffeine after my BFP, but still consumed it.
