We didn't tell anyone we were heading to the hospital in case we got turned away and it was like 3 in the morning. Once we were admitted and it was a decent hour my husband called both our immediate families and our 2 good friends. But both families are out of town. Regardless, at our childbirth classes they gave us passes to hand out. No one without a pass gets into L&D so if we did not want anyone there then there will be no one there.

We only told my mom until I was in active labor (at 5cm) then we told my dad, IL, and siblings. We announced her birth to family about 2 hours after her arrival & to everyone else in the morning. We didn't' have visitors until the next day (P was born just after midnight & our first visitor was around lunch time)

My water broke at midnight. Once we got to the hospital and it was confirmed that it was actually my water we texted our parents, siblings, my best friend and 2 of the HB ladies that I'm close to

@Pepper: I've been wondering who/when to tell as well. I don't want anyone but DH in the room, period. Even though all of our parents have at least a 2-hr drive to get to our town, I know they will leave like ASAP, so I was thinking of waiting to call them for a while, so I don't have too crazy of a crowd in the waiting room. I don't want visitors right away!!

I called my mom and I think DH told his mom, but our families aren't local, so they wouldn't have ended up waiting in the hospital - we just thought they would be excited to know (and they were!).

We are only planning to tell DH's Aunt because she is going to be watching our dogs so we want her to be prepared. We aren't telling anyone else until we are on the way to the hospital and even then it will only be immediate family. They have all been alerted not to come to the hospital until we tell them we are ready for visitors.

We called parents, that was it. The next morning, my parents told my siblings. That afternoon I texted some good girlfriends and DH told his BFF since he had happened to call and wanted to know how things were.

My sister was at our house when we left. I called my parents. We would have called dh's mom but she doesn't answer after 8 pm. No one lives within two hrs of us so there wasn't a worry of people being in the room with us.

No one! I thought my water broke and didn't want to call anyone if it was a false alarm. Sure enough, it did break-I had a precipitous birth though and labored and delivered in barely over 2 hours...from 11pm to 2 am! We didn't even have time to call anyone.

Parents and siblings were allowed to know. They already knew they were only allowed in the waiting room though. They came up to say hi for a few minutes then let me be. Dh texted updates. We told them ahead of time that we were doing skin to skin for at least an hour so they already knew it would be awhile before we let them in.

Our plan is to tell our parents. Each set lives over 5 hours away, so if they want to come even in time to see us in the hospital, they'll need to start thinking about travel/accommodations as soon as it's confirmed to be the real thing.

My water broke in the morning before I was going on a walk with my neighbor, so we told her and went for the walk. I also texted my doula. On the way home, we called our parents who all live 2-3 hours away. We thought it was no rush so they didn't leave at that point. DH called two hours later to tell them we were going to the hospital and leave when they could. He called 3 hours later to tell them R was born! I didn't want them waiting around either but after she was born, I literally asked DH if he told our parents that we were there! I was so concentrated on laboring!

Only our doula knew until we were at the hospital. Then DH called my parents. I don't know who else he told, but I think most people didn't know until after she was born.

I decided not to have anyone other than my husband at the hospital when I went into labor. We didnt tell anyone in our families until about an hour after our son was born. I didnt want to deal with half a dozen people hovering out in the hall, waiting for the many hours I ended up in labor (especially because my in laws are fairly advanced in age), and then rushing in to see the baby and passing him around like a football. My husband didnt feel the same but supported my decision 100%. In the end, I was really happy that we were able to spend the first hour alone with our baby. I also was able to take a shower before the first visitors arrived, which was really nice. So absolutely no regrets.

We called my parents, my inlaws and my brother/sister in law when we were at the hospital. My parents live 2 hours away, my brother lives on the opposite side of the country, by my in laws live 15 minutes from the hospital. They originally wanted to come wait in the waiting room, but luckily they were in the middle of Yellowstone when I had the baby, so they didn't even make it to the hospital until the next day! We got about 5 uninterrupted hours to enjoy our baby and bond as a new family, and it was perfect!! I highly recommend telling people to hold off visiting until you get settled after the birth of the baby.

My mom was my labor coach (with DH, obviously), so she knew, of course. DH called his parents and my BFF SIL when I was admitted, and later (when I was around 7cm), he called my dad and stepmom. My MIL sent an email to our immediate family telling them we were at the hospital (with my okay).
