How did you go about doing it? Did you interview other pediatricians or just go on recommendations? How old was your LO? How did you inform the pediatrician that you were leaving?

We were fired the same week we were going to fire our pedi. I planned on writing a certified letter & requesting our records.

If you really feel the need to leave, you could just do so without making any waves. If you think that your care has been sub-par, then perhaps a letter to the office manager and the doctor to let them know where they fell short of the standard of care. I'm not a huge proponent of doctor switching as it is associated with increased medical errors, dissatisfaction, and increased testing/work-up. I understand that sometimes there is a good reason for change, but my threshold to make that change is very high

I'm going to a new ped tomorrow for his 15 month well baby visit.
How did you go about doing it? - I just called and switched his primary care doctor in the system. We are with KP so we didn't have to worry about moving records.
Did you interview other pediatricians or just go on recommendations? - I saw the new doctor twice when the primary one was out of town and I really liked her but didn't change bc I felt "loyal" to the old ped who wasn't bad, but didn't explain things as thoroughly as the new doctor. My friend asked for recommendations and I just couldn't recommend the ped I was seeing at the time. She went with the new doctor and really liked her.
How old was your LO? - 15 months. I saw the new doc at 12 months for a cold just a few days after seeing the old ped for his 1 year check up. I decided at that visit that I felt more comfortable with the new doctor. She was more my style.
How did you inform the pediatrician that you were leaving? - I just changed him in the system and didn't say anything to the old doctor. If I had to get records I would try to just deal with the office staff and if the doctor called me directly, I would be honest and tell them why I was switching.

LO is almost 11 months and I am about to interview new pediatricians. We went on friends reccomendations the first time and that didnt turn out so well. The peds at our practice were very cold to me and LO and tended to overreact about everything and also gave me false information. Once I choose a new ped I plan to just ask to have medical records sent to the new one and not make a big deal of it. LO has never been sick or had any health issues so I'm not concerned about making the switch. Our current ped doesn't even have toys in the waiting room!

We switched DD to the family practice doctor DH and I saw when she was 6 months old. I just informed the office manager in the ped's office that we would be switching her over to our GP, and signed a waiver so they would send DD's records over to the GP's office. We didn't interview anyone, since we switched to a doctor we already knew well.

I just faxed a record request to them. Our ped was awful, in and out in five minutes, didn't really care and couldn't pronounce her name no matter how many times I corrected him. We went with a reccomendation for my ds who has some "attitude" issues. The previous ped labeled him adhd (not so) and put him on meds with no testing. The new spent two hours talking and getting to know hin before diagnosing, no checklists. He hasn't seen our lo yet.

LO is 11.5 months and we are on our third pediatrician. I got recommendations from friends and family and I'm very happy with our ped now. I just cancelled our appts with the receptionist and let them know we won't be back.

We switched practices at our 4 mo appt. I cancelled our appt and had them copy ds's records so I could bring them with me to the new ped. I went on a recomendation from a friend (2nd by fellow hb'ers).
