DH and I refer to each other before making any purchase really and make decisions together, but he definitely has the most say! He also is our money manager.

I am. I've been in the banking/financial for years, so it just makes sense for us.

I do more of our money managing. I set up all our bank accounts and keep an eye on everything online. I keep him updated on our credit card points, set things up to autopay, that kind of stuff. I set up E's college fund, too. That's really about it, though.

We *do* make financial decision together. But I'm the one that does all the bill paying, etc.

Me. I make the most amount of money and know all of our accounts and when bills get paid, so I make the decisions. DH does help with monitoring to make sure bills that are not automatically paid (like medical bills and copays) are paid.

We do discuss big purchases and sometimes little purchases if one of us wonders if we should buy it. Ultimately he lets me decide. Sometimes I wish it wasn't just my decision.

By far it's me. I pay the bills, watch the account balances, and run the budget out every month. I also keep up to date on our 401ks, research different investment options for our money, and have set up all of our savings accounts.

I tend to think of myself as the driving force in our family. We both make the money, and DH and I always discuss purchases and future plans, but he always defers to me when it comes to keeping our family moving financially.

@plantains: Hehe. DH couldn't tell me the balance of any of our accounts. "You handle it, why do I need to know?"

My DH. He's just better at money than me, and he understands the whole big picture while I have trouble grasping it completely.

Hmmm I would say it switches back and forth, and that's the honest truth. Sometimes I hold the purse strings and sometimes he takes the lead.

I think at different points we have switched back and forth. Right now it's definitely my wife. And I'm ok with that. I don't have to pay attention I just spend...unless she tells me not to.

DH pays the monthly bills, but ultimately I make the decisions. I make the most amount of money so when we contemplate big purchases I usually have the last say. I always take into consideration his thoughts....but I am the one who really needs to be comfortable.

We make financial decisions together, but I handle actually managing the money. DH is really bad with managing money. He gets a set amount left in his checking account each week as his "spending money" and I move everything else into my checking account where we pay all our bills out of. We learned painfully at the beginning of our marriage that he is just not good with managing money. I even took away his credit cards for awhile (with his agreement) because he would use them simply because they were there, even when the money was in his checking account! Plain and simple, if it's there, he will spend it. So I make sure it's not there for him to spend it and it's all good.

Me..by far. He probably has no idea what his take home pay is. I do all banking, paying of bills, setting up of accounts, etc. He just has no interest, and would rather me just keep him updated on how things are going. I don't mind it. I think I'd be way too paranoid not to be the one in charge.

We usually split big decisions but my husband deals with more or the day to day stuff. I am working on getting more involved though. For example, even though I helped decide what percentage of income we are putting in to retirement accounts I couldn't tell you how much is currently in there if you asked.

We both make decisions on big purchases but he definitely takes the role when it comes to managing our finances. He's an accountant so it's just natural for him to take the role. I'm horrible at math. haha

My husband is the CEO and CFO of our family. He makes all the big planning and investment decisions. I am the COO and keep the day to day running.

I don't really know how to answer this. We still keep our accounts mostly separate, and don't really consult each other about most of our purchases. I mean, when we bought our house and our car, we were obviously both involved -- but DH will make an extra mortgage payment or buy himself a new video game system without telling me, while I handled the reinsulation of our attic and buy myself handbags without his input (well, he knew the insulation project was going on, but wasn't involved beyond that). I guess I'm a little more involved in day-to-day stuff like paying for utilities, cable, etc, but it's all on auto-pay so I don't really have to do anything besides check the billing amount to make sure it looks correct. We each handle our own retirement accounts and outside investments, and we don't have any joint credit cards (but nor do we have any CC debt). If either of us ever wants to know what the other's accounts look like, we can do that, but as a practical matter we just don't.

I don't think this system will be sustainable once LO arrives, but up to now it's worked just fine for us. I'm kind of worried about the transition to a more shared system, TBH.

My husband. We do make decisions together and no one's opinion means more than the other's, but ultimately, he executes all billing, insurance, & banking tasks.

I don't know. He pays the bills, I balance the budget. We discuss our investments together and he transfers over the money. Neither of us spend over $100 without talking to the other first.

When we first met he was really bad at handling money. He likes to buy things and had gotten into debt. He was very self conscious about it. I've always been frugal and good with saving. I initiated our budget and made most of the decisions for paying of our debt. He gradually started taking things over and that really helped him get his confidence back.

So, I guess I have to vote him.

I voted my husband, but that's only really because he is the one that tracks the monthly planned vs. actual in the budget. In some things I can not take the lead, such as my husband's retirement accounts (because they are abroad and I can't really read the website in German). He also prepares and files our taxes, which I think it amazing since he's not American and my situation has historically been a bit complex.

I trust him completely, though, he's extremely conservative in many aspects of his life and we're both long term kind of people.
