Just out of curiosity, what kind of rude comments are you afraid of?

I hid mine until 12 weeks just for fear of miscarrying. I didn't want to deal with having to tell people and making it a public grieving session. And then I did miscarry once so I was very glad for that decision.

I really just hid it until 12 weeks for fear of miscarrying. I thought I would wait to tell work until I was 14-16 weeks, but I ended up telling them around 12 weeks because I just couldn't deal with keeping the secret anymore!

I have already had 2 miscarriages so not telling is more out of fear of another loss. I am also a wedding planner and don't want to alarm clients. However, I'm due in the middle of June, so I know I am going to lose some that may not want my assistant instead of me on the day of the wedding.

I can certainly understand your reasons for hiding a pregnancy, @ameliabedelia, especially the one with clients. I'd just think about it the other way, that clients might actually be appreciative if you told them and came up with a plan on who would take over your accounts while you are on maternity leave. I think clients would respond well to it, pregnancy is a fact of life.

I hit it for about 5 months. I work in a male-dominated industry., and the last thing I wanted was special treatment or them thinking that I couldnt adequately perform my job duties while pregnant. I waited as long as I could to show them that my level of work hadnt been impacted and that I was still in heels lol (up until the day Liv was born!) I did tell my boss and a senior manager just so they knew why I was at the doctor so frequently, but thats it

I had to tell my direct supervisor before we got pregnant cause I needed time off for the IVF treatments. Worst idea in the world. He made my life miserable. I moved to a new group (same supervisor but new building etc) and hid it until February (he was due in April). He was very low and so I was able to wear baggy clothes for forever. I didn't want a repeat and kept hoping I would find another job.

We'll hide it from work and non-immediate family and friends until second trimester at least, or until I can't anymore.
Why? A few reasons. Work isn't going to love it. Family and friends may have some negative comments that I'd rather avoid as long as possible (we're young - 21/22, but married and stable), and I really just like the idea of it being something private and special. Plus, a lot of people are going to ask questions that we don't care to answer - we don't plan to share the gender or name picks until after birth, and we're planning on a birth center instead of a hospital which I'm sure people will have opinions on.
I just don't want to have to deal with all the negative conversations, and bask in the glory of our own, personal, happy family.
