I know our IF coverage wasn't the worst but we did pay quite a bit out of pocket. Well now I'll stop complaining about that, because I took a look at our recent insurance claims paid. OMG. In the past month they've paid $13,000 for 2 ultrasounds at the MFM and 1 triage visit. I'm afraid to find out how much my most recent triage visit will cost, even if I'm not paying for it, and then I still have a few more ultrasounds at the MFM. I'm just going to be grateful now. How is this stuff so expensive?

my LO practically fell out in triage and my hospital bill was astronomical. luckily we only had our copay, but I was floored. I wanted to say - "you guys didn't do anything! what am I paying for?!" lol!

@spaniellove: It's insane. Our first "preview bill" for LO's birth was 36K+…that made DH zip right up about the >$2k we'll pay out of pocket. Healthcare is definitely a racket. Sheesh!

Canadian chiming in, but I'd love to actually see an itemized bill for things even though we don't pay it directly out of pocket. But I'm sure I've paid for the minimal medical intervention I've had in my life a couple times over in taxes. But that's socialism, I suppose.

@Sapphiresun: Strangely we don't get the Explanation of Benefits paperwork with our charges. I had to sign up to get emails whenever a new claim showed up in the system because they were so frequent and with what they're charging for this stuff it would be devastating if something was denied and I didn't know.
