DD1 had a pretty similar vocab to what you are describing at that age - she'd say things like dada, mamai (mama), mum mum (milk), num num num (food), baby. With regard to the misplaced sounds....even at 3, DD1 has trouble with certain sounds in specific words - recently she's started saying "tajamas" for pajamas, even though I know she knows the word, and says "purple" perfectly. I think it's an ever changing thing and personally wouldn't stress too much

On made up words, DD2 is just past 12 months and says "ging ging" ALL. THE. TIME. We can't for the life of us figure out what it means - As far as the rest of her vocal, the words she says are so different from what DD1 said. Here's what she's saying now (roughly in the order of which she started saying them):

I got it (just today - it's a little garbled but very clear....when she gets a toy or something she waves it in the air - I know this sounds all proud mama, but DH and my mom have all heard it and understood it!)

That's similar to my daughter, who was way ahead of the norm vocally.

Everyone will be so diff. Dd has more words than DS did at 15 months and I thought he had a lot then.

She can say apple, hairbow, cracker, hi, bye, mama, dad, baby, ball, milk, more, dog, pop, bubbles, bath, night night, hat, book, Elmo, shoe...that's just what comes to mind. I feel like that's a pretty large vocabulary for a 15 month old.

My LO had no words at 14 months and then a month later her language suddenly took off.

My DS had 0-2 words at 14 months, now at 17 months he has at least 30 - although plenty of them are garbled!

My daughter is 15 months and says "nuh" for milk even though she can make the "m" sound. I only know because she signs along with saying it! Her other words are mama, dada, no, ba (for ball and book),oh, yay, outside, cheese, uh-oh, hi, bye, pop, dog, baby, all done.

Just for reference, I worried about my lo's speech until 18-20 months when he took off like crazy. At 2.5 he will tell a whole story. I don't think you would need to worry at that age unless there were no words at all.

That's about the same or maybe more than what my LO was saying at that age. Then around 18 months or so, she started talking up a storm! She has new words every day now.

T has about 10 words at 15 months. His doctor said at his checkup last week that 7-20 is advanced, and I was surprised. His speech doesn't seem advanced to me but idk.
