Many beer gardens here in Brooklyn have family friendly hours where parents can take their kids. I haven't tried it yet, but were doing a big get together with friends the weekend of July 4th and we're throwing out the idea of at least hanging out at the beer garden. Would you judge? Personally, i think it's fine as long as you're not trashed beyond the capacity to take care of your kids.

Absolutely. But I live in Portland, where eating and drinking and generally socializing with children out in public is absolutely normal. In terms of drinking around children, I think that demonstrating safe and sane alcohol consumption is utterly crucial to making it a healthy part of their eventual adult lives.

If it's a normal thing? Totally. If I was the only one in the garden with the child or children and there were drunks around and it was NOT family friendly? No.

My friend had a b-day party at a beer garden (the famous one where that one guy lost his iphone that was the next gen one and somehow it got to the hands of a tech blog here)
Anyways LO was 11 months old and we bought him without thinking! In the middle of it... I was like we are in a bar techinally! I don't think anyone was judging me about it though ^_^

There's a beer garden 2 blocks from our house an kids are there all the time (not late night)...plus Sundays are officially family days there. So yes, I would go!!

I would. We used to meet up with a bunch of D's coworkers for wing night at a local bar, until they were able to allow smoking inside, and we were asked to leave (I would have anyway). I did get some disapproving looks, though. But really, I would dinner and one beer, and he was almost always asleep in his car seat. It's not like I was wasted ignoring a screaming baby!

We did last weekend...in Munich, so it was definitely the place to try. It was super family friendly and they even had a playground! In the German culture most people don't get trashed. They leave that to the foreigners.

Yes. When I lived in NYC, I went to beer gardens a lot and there were always families there during the day on the weekend. It was pretty cool to see the parents feel comfortable to go out and socialize with their friends and bring their kids along. During the day, it's not as crazy with drinking either so it's just a nice social atmosphere.

I'm not sure. If it was for someone's birthday party or some kind of celebration perhaps. I've had friends post pics of them with babies at beer gardens and I've had a couple of friends post judgey status updates about how horrible parents who take their kids to beer gardens are. If I went I wouldn't post any photos!

It depends if there was smoking allowed in the beer garden. In the US it's not much of an issue anymore, but Europe's still a little behind and it's not uncommon for there to be tons of second hand smoke in restaurants/bars.
