So the school I work at was closed today due to bed bugs. A company came in today to exterminate which I'm being told included heat and chemical spray or bombing. We are supposed to report tomorrow.
I'm 20 weeks pregnant and my principal said its up to me if I go or not since it won't be 24 hours between extermination and us reporting. They had to spray the two classrooms I work in (7 were treated).

My initial reaction would be to say I wouldn't.. But I know that may be difficult given you're a teacher

No. Not worth it especially if you have pre-approval. There are enough toxins in our environment that we can't control.

Definitely not. And as a parent, I would absolutely not send my child back less than 24 hours after a fumigation like that!

Absolutely not. Even if you weren't pregnant you still shouldn't be in that environment. I also would not send my child.

I wouldn't but that's just my opinion. Our house was injected with termite treatment and the termite guy said it was safe to stay on premises but the smell was so strong that we stayed in a hotel for the night and even the next day or two it could still be noticed.

We used supposedly non-toxic "organics" chemicals to treat our apartment for bedbugs years ago, and our son ended up breaking out in a rash... turns out Bee had inhaled some fumes after the treatment was finished, and our son was exposed through her breastmilk! Based on that experience, I definitely would not go back in that room. I'd also ask that they air it out overnight with the windows open!

I don't think it's a good idea to go. I've seen some articles recently that some bedbug pesticides (pyrethrins) are bad for developing babies. A small one time exposure after first trimester might be no big deal, I really can't say for sure, but if you have the option to stay home, why risk it?

I will always stay home if given the choice 
But really, I do not think that they should have anyone back yet if they are concerned with safety.

My best friend went in today and she says the building smells really strong still. I'm glad I stayed home!
