Housekeeping, contract work, painting, etc.?

My SIL's dad does all of our handyman work. When we first moved here I was 8 months pregnant and hubby was busy working so we needed him for painting and fixing up little things around the house. He also fixed up and painting our townhouse that we're renting out and moved us.
He's great at those things and I love that I can trust him in my house, with our keys, etc. Are you worried about having a friend do stuff for you?

@artbee: I was thinking about hiring someone we know to clean our house. DH is against it though. Thought it might be nice to give her the business, but eh. It's kinda awkward.

Um depends on your relationship and if you are open and honest. Honestly my husband is too demanding that it would clearly end a friendship. So it's a no go for us.

@chopsuey119: What's awkward about it? I think having a cleaning lady is awkward in general. She comes to clean my house while I sit here and play with LO. I feel like she thinks I don't do anything all day.

Somone I knew from H.S. who was getting their masters degree and needed some extra cash did our housekeeping for a couple of months. I wish she was still doing it. The service we hired after sucks.

I would not have a friend clean my house. I feel weird about that. Too personal.

@artbee: HAHA. I just think it'd be awkward since we know the person.. I'd feel like I need to help or talk to her while she's cleaning?

@chopsuey119: Usually, depending on what's going on with LO, we'll go outside and sit out front because I like to take my dog out there so he doesn't bother them the whole time. That way I don't really have to interact with her that much. But you're not supposed to help the cleaning lady!

i don't think i would. they'd be like doing my laundry and all. plus, i'd feel bad asking her to do things.

No. For the same reasons I would never sell a friend or family member a used car - too often things go wrong and the friendship/relationship suffers. There are plenty of cleaning services out there; I’d never hire a friend to clean my house.

I wouldn't. Just because I would be afraid it could mess up our relationship if things go sour.
