DH and I randomly saw Sophia and really liked it. When realized how popular it was we immediately nixed it.

But I agree that if a name was meaningful to us then it would not matter. Ie family name.

Yup. And I only know one other person IRL with her name and she is 15. I agree with @septca: , popularity isn't what it used to be!

Yes as long as someone close to me doesn't have the name.

I've been thinking about this lately - because I've loved the name Olivia for quite some time now, and when we started TTC I noticed it was in the Top 5 names. I still love the name, but am still undecided about it if we have a girl. I don't want her to be one of 10 Olivia's among everyone we are in contact with. Thankfully though, we don't know any yet

if i was absolutely obsessed with a name, i don't think popularity alone with sway me.... but there are names that i kinda like that are in the top 10-25 but probably won't go on the short list because of their spot.

If it were a name I'd had my heart set on, I'd consider it. It would be a tough decision though. That's probably just the contrarian in me talking

My name was #2 for girls in my birth year. Growing up I always knew girls with my name; their were 3 other ones in my graduating class of 300! Now, however it's rare for me to meet another woman with my name.
