Sounds like they're just being cautious? Some babies measure smaller, but really, ultrasound only gives an estimation. Hope the scan goes well, you're almost there!

@Rubies: Ugh, I hate when they use language like that! I'm sure that everything is just fine with the baby and they are being overly cautious. I bet that baby is just tucked up inside your ribs and happy as a clam.

Hopefully they are just being cautious! Belly measurements are pretty imprecise. One dr in my practice said I was measuring on the small side and then 3 days later (I was going in for bp checks) another dr wanted to send me for a growth check because she thought I was measuring so big she thought I should schedule a c-section right away. LO was a fairly average 8 lbs btw. Prayers that everything is perfect with your LO!

They had me all up in arms over growth scans. From like, 25 weeks on!! and my baby was a perfect 7 lb 10 oz I just carried her high and close! I'm sure everything is perfect!

Something like this happened to a friend of mine. Her baby was about 6# and skinny, but totally healthy.

Hopefully all is well! I'm assuming they're saying your fundus measurements is small, so they just want to make sure baby is still growing at the proper rate. I had growth u/s every other week for my entire pregnancy, so here's what I can tell you: your fundus (belly) measurement can change quite a lot just from the baby's positioning from week to week and is not necessarily tied at all to the baby's actual growth, which is probably why they want to just check and make sure. Some weeks I measured 8 weeks ahead, some weeks I measured 6 or 10 weeks ahead. If your fundus measurement didn't increase or dropped, they probably just are doing a precautionary check to see if it's okay to let you keep going and wait for baby to decide it's time, or whether they need to induce to get this LO out sooner rather than later.

If there is an immediate concern, I don't think the midwives would just leave it up to you calling around to see when you could get in, but you could call them and tell them Wednesday is as early as you can get in and see if they can help you get in earlier or reassure you that it doesn't have to be done immediately. As far along as you are, even if the baby isn't getting enough nutrients and the growth has slowed, they could induce or do a c-section immediately and bring LO out into the world!

I know it is soo hard not to panic when you have an ultrasound that is for the sole purpose of making sure something is/isn't happening. Big hugs!

ETA: I had to deliver at 36 weeks, and even my tiny guy that wasn't getting enough nutrients thrived outside the womb and came home after 8 days.

Hoping everything goes well during your ultrasound. I have been measuring small for the last month or two. GD patients are supposed to have big babies, not small ones measuring in the 5th percentile. I have had ultrasounds every 4 weeks since week 18, and now they are making me go in for weekly ultrasounds. It's a pain, and baby has been healthy so far (minus the VSD diagnoses). The only factors they can really contribute to the low weight have all been ruled out in tests done early in my pregnancy. I just have small babies, and I'm a petite Asian. I hate that they're making a big deal out of LO being on the smaller side.

I'm sure your baby is super healthy and growing just fine. The ultrasound is more precautionary, and it'll help settle any concerns the doctors might have.

I always measured small, and some weeks I didn't grow at all. Everything worked out and she was 8 lbs 11oz, so clearly she was just squished in there or something

Hang in there! Hopefully just for precautionary reasons and that's it. I had to go in for an additional measurement check mid-pregnancy b/c of some condition I had to make sure my baby was growing okay and he was! Sending good results your way!

Sending good thoughts your way. I'm sure it's just out of an abundance of caution. I think my Dr. sent me for some kind of extra test after every visit after 36 weeks of so. It stressed me out so I was glad I could text my doula between each test. I can't imagine having to wait days - but that should tell you they aren't THAT concerned.

I was sent for a growth u/s around 36 weeks when my belly was suddenly measuring smaller than the previous week. DS had just shifted around, and was totally find. He was almost 8lbs.

I had one done at 32 weeks because I was measuring small. They found nothing abnormal but i'm sure they just do it for precautionary measures. Good luck

Thinking of you! I'm sure it's just precautionary and hopefully everything is fine. Were you measuring even smaller this week? I measured on target every week until 38 weeks. Then I started measuring smaller... it was because he dropped. I would think it's not serious if they're letting you wait til Wednesday. Hugs! Try not to worry.

@Rubies: Like everyone else, I think the fact that they're waiting until Wednesday is a good sign. You're so close to the end now, mama! You'll get to hold that little one soon!

i was 'measuring smallish' all the way through as well for #2, and as you know i just ended up going late with the pregnancy (41+6!), so perhaps the dating was just off
