Did you get a pedicure in your third tri? If you did, did you ask the nail technician not to rub the pressure point between your heel and ankle bone? I've seen this come up a lot in the pregnancy books I've read, but I need a pedi like crazy.... I can't reach my feet! DH offered to paint my toes so I guess I could always take him up on it instead

@grizz: Heck yes. I've had 2 already and I plan to have 2 more (have an appt for tomorrow in fact!). I didn't mention anything about pressure points, etc and don't plan to. I guess I'm not too worried about it. I actually don't even care about the nail polish (though it's nice) - I go for the foot scrub/rubbing!! lol

I did get pedicures all the way through and I didn't specify about pressure points and I had no problems!

i had several during my third trimester and i didn't say anything about pressure points--didn't induce labor!

I just had one yesterday! I can't reach my feet either, haha. I've seen the recommendations in the books that you mention, but I didn't say anything about the pressure point. In my experience with the foot rubs is that they haven't stayed in the same spot long enough for me to worry that they would trigger anything.

My doula suggested that I obviously let them know I'm pregnant...which by the 3rd trimester is obvious...and that if I feel any tenderness--which you usually would if someone really pressed on that point--to ask them to stop. She's also told me that she's never seen someone go into labor after hitting that point, so I never worry about it. I've heard it works sometimes if you are past due and have someone really press on several pressure points for a while.

I did. not even know this was a thing. I got a pedi on Friday and didn't think twice about it (except for how amazing it was!)

I wasn't worried about that, I was more concerned that the place was clean and I didn't have any open cuts in my feet so I wasn't at risk for an infection.

I did, but I never mentioned it. My understanding is that in order for acupressure points to induce labour (a) the pressure needs to be prolonged, and (b) the baby needs to be ready to be born.
I had one pedicure around 33-ish weeks, and another at 39.5. Obviously by the time 39.5 weeks rolled around I was no longer concerned about inducing labour (and here I sit at 41+6........so, obviously those foot massages didn't do anything for me!)!

Didn't know about that pressure point! Good to know, but I probably wouldn't say anything. I don't think they ever stay in one spot for an extended amount of time.

I never asked anything specific, and delivered right on my due date
I enjoyed every minute of those pedicures!!

My doc said not to worry about it and to enjoy them! So I did frequently thoughout my entire pregnancy!

@grizz: Yes I did. It was at a chinese place that does reflexology though and I told them to avoid the area, but they know what they are doing. I am sure you will be fine going to a normal place. Its a pretty specific thing to do and if you felt them doing it, you could have them stop immediately.

i never knew about the pressure point!
this time round i'll be in my 3rd tri in the dead of summer so i'm definitely gonna indulge in a pedi or two
last time 3rd tri was in the spring, so i just got dh to paint my nails. he did a great job!
