At my OB appt today I was 4 cm dilated (up from 2 cm last week) and 80%+ effaced. Baby is very anterior and low (-1 station). I have had contractions off and on all week (more intense last night and today), but nothing terribly close together. My OB says "any time now...."
EDIT: I'm 38 + 2
Any guesses on when I'll actually go into labor?! Days?? Magic 8 ball? Anyone?

5 days before I had DS, I was 3 cms and 90% effaced; I'd also been having contractions off and on for weeks, so I think you're almost there!

You are NOT giving birth before me! (That is my only requirement) But then again, I'm only a 3cm and 80% (but this is my second - slight advantage) 
You could stay at 4 for some time, but I say 1 week early.

@winniebee: How frustrating! Me too. I keep getting these awesome contractions and I'm like YES!! and then... too long till the next one. Grr. My mom suggested cleaning the fridge if I ran out of things to do.

@pastemoo: I went on a 30 minute walk and it seems to have picked things up again (contractions every 15 minutes or so). We'll see if it keeps up this time! Fortuitously, DH is done early today and is on his way home : )
