I had my anatomy scan yesterday (which was awesome) but I am sad it'll be awhile before I have another one. We're having an elective 3D/4D done around 28 weeks, but does the doctor do another u/s before delivery even if everything is progressing well with your pregnancy? So far I haven't had any problems/complications, so I am just wondering if I'll have any more ultrasounds at the doctor's office.

I don't think you'd do one til close to the end, like 34 weeks to check birth weight? If they'd even do that. I've needed a bunch for complications though (one at 23 weeks for pre-term labor to check fluid, one at 29 weeks because baby is too small, and another tomorrow, 31 weeks, to again check weight.). If all is fine tomorrow that'll hopefully be it!

We did but only because they thought she might be breech (she was) and two after that to see if she'd turned (she hadn't) but it was super nice to see her so far along.

The only other one we had was the 3d/4d (we paid for it out of pocket). Oh and we had another when they thought she wasn't growing at the rate she should be but everything turned out okay.

I did but only because I had a couple complications. I had biweekly scans through 24 weeks because I'd had LEEP a few years back and they needed to monitor me for cervical incompetence. Then I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes so required monthly biophysical profile/growth scans at 32 weeks, which turned into weekly scans at the end (midwives decided they were faster and more accurate than the previously scheduled nonstress tests).

In the UK we don't. Just 12 and 20 week scans. Of course if there is some kind of medical concern they will send you for another scan later on.

My OB said she might do an additional ultrasound at 36 weeks if she has any concerns about baby's size, but otherwise my anatomy scan was my last ultrasound.

@sea_bass: My midwives in the US are the same-- 12 week and 19-20 week anatomy scan, then that's it unless something comes up and you need one. We got lucky because the baby wouldn't turn around so the tech could get a certain picture, so they had me come back in a week later, which was a nice little bonus peak at the baby. Hopefully I won't see him/her again until around the due date!

@ladyfingers: I need to ask my doctor about this at my next appointment.. she's been out on maternity leave and the dr. i've been seeing didn't mention anything about my LEEP or cervical incompetence. I'm 24 weeks this weekend though, so maybe I'm past their worry point?
@lawbee11: I've been wondering about the u/s schedule too, another question for my OB-GYN on tues!

Not standard here.
I got one at 36 weeks, as baby was breech at 32 weeks and they needed to confirm that he/she had flipped to head down. Not a routine u/s though.

@Foodnerd81: That's what's hard--I don't want to see baby if the only way I'll see her is if something is wrong, but I am hoping my doctor throws another one in there "just because!"

I only had another one done to confirm he was breech. There wouldn't have been one after the anatomy scan if that hadn't been the case.

I didn't, only a quick peek at head position when I was admitted to L&D.

I did but only because I had a low lying placenta they had to keep checking on. If it weren't for that the anatomy scan would have been my last.

I am getting one at my 36 week appointment so my OB can check my baby's size and fluid levels...he wants to make sure the baby doesn't get too big since I have GD.
Late ultrasounds are no fun..you can't see much!

Good question! I'll be sure to ask my OB next Thursday if we will have another one, I had preterm labor and kidney stones with my last pregnancy, I think we had a u/s once a month.

We had a growth scan at 36 weeks.

The anatomy scan will be the only scan I'll have during pregnancy unless there is a complication. That's the standard practice at my midwife's office.

I didn't! They don't do another unless they think something is wrong. We had no clue what her weight would be till I was in labor and the nurse and doctor felt the belly and estimated.

I didn't have any after the anatomy scan. I looked at her pictures from it a lot till she was born.

Only because there were complications. From 37 weeks until delivery I had an ultrasound each week.

I had a couple of extras because I had a mild case of placenta previa and then two more to check his position and size. I don't really think they were all necessary, but it was nice to see LO so many times!

I got one at 38 weeks because the midwife thought he felt a bit small and wanted everything checked. He was fine (50th%). Otherwise, no I wouldn't have.

We don't do late term u/s unless a suspected problem arises. They're notorious for being wrong for birth size & have attributed to lots of unnecessary intervention & minimizing a woman's ability to birth. (Sorry for sounding harsh, they leave a bad taste in my mouth).

My hospital didn't do any after the anatomy scan unless there was cause for concern. I did pay for an elective ultrasound when I was around 30 weeks.

I had no complications and my last US was my anatomy scan. My friend's doc did a 3rd trimester scan even though she had a normal pregnancy. I think it depends on the doctor!

My doctor makes us come in every 5 weeks and does an US every time.. And I always love seeing him move around in there and how much he's grown! I don't think it's necessary though because pregnancy is going problem-free so far. Guess I have a very thorough doctor...

I had two more afterwards. I had one at 38 weeks to get an estimate of the weight and size of the baby. then once I went past my due date I had one more to make sure everything was ok

I had two more. One was because I slipped on ice walking the dogs (I hardly fell) and they just wanted to check on things. The other one was when I went past my due date to make sure baby was okay.
