Has anyone taken an antidepressant while pregnant? I'm thinking about going on Prozac as I'm having a really rough time. Any stories or advice? Thanks!

@sampron: I did for the same reasons. I took Zoloft and my daughter is 12 months and healthy as can be!

I would talk to your OB about risk vs benefit. I know many people who have taken ADs while pregnant though. Good luck.

I asked for them a few weeks back and my doctor wouldn't prescribe. She said that there were some that were safe-ish in pregnancy but there were still risks. She said she had to weigh up the risk to me & baby of leaving me without against the risk to the baby of me taking them and, as I wasn't going to hurt myself or others, the risk to baby was greater. She insisted I try therapy first.
I hope you get the help you need. Depression in pregnancy is the pits. I don't think I ever really got well after my PPD to be honest but falling pregnant with #2 knocked me right down again.

Thanks all. Can't do therapy right now as my husband is leaving and I have no one to watch my kiddos for all the appts. I already have to ask friends for help for my regular ob appts and I don't want to be "that" friend. I will say that I have my good days but some days are so bad that I wake up crying and am just miserable. I hardly eat and am not always as patient with my kiddos as I should be. They deserve better. I need something as I don't want to get worse

@sampron: could you hire a sitter for the appointments? Your mental health is so important!
I didn't take anti depressants while pregnant but have been on and off them for about 15 years. I hope you find a solution

@sampron: I take my baby with me to therapy. Not sure the ages of your kids or if it's possible to maybe leave one with a friend/Mother's Day out type situation? I'm sorry it's so tough. It may just be a season where you need your friends more than normal- don't worry about being "that" friend! You'd be there for them yourself one day if called upon I am sure!

I started Lexapro at 14 weeks and am still on it (my daughter is 11 months). Best decision ever. Hugs to you

@sampron: I took 40-60mg of Prozac through both pregnancies. My kids are perfectly healthy, and it was crucial for my mental health!

I have been on Zoloft this pregnancy. I hope to wean off prior to birth to minimize withdrawal side effects on the baby, this is after discussions of overall pros and cons with my psychiatrist and OB.
