I kind of sucked this week and I haven't run at all. I did yoga on Monday + walk with hub, did 30 min workout dance game tues + walk, and just walked wed/fri (nothing thursday). I should've at least done my dance game again.
Today I have a short wedding though (3 hours of standing/walking/squatting/hauling/running around) so that should be a decent workout at least.

So since I went back to work I have totally fallen off the wagon. By the time I get home from work I need a hardcore nap to even function, wake up, dinner and then its just about bedtime. I walked some over the weekend, and was pretty pooped from that--which is a far cry from running 3-5 miles. I am really hoping that I get some ju ju back once this first tri is over!! I miss working out.

I haven't had gyms access for the past couple weeks and so have been a total slug. Booooooo! I need to get back to it when I get home (been at my in-laws for like a week and we get home next weekend). my dr said though to keep my heartrate below 140--has anyone else gotten that advice? I need to get a monitor!
persimmon / 1361 posts
@nana87: I've heard that re: heart rate before. I think its outdated advice, but that's just from internet searches. My OB just said exercise is good and to keep it up! She made no mention of my HR should be kept below a certain level, but I didn't specifically ask either.
I've been slacking sort of. Haven't gone to my crossfit class in a week. I did run on Saturday morning and I went on a 5 mile hike yesterday. I was supposed to go on a run this morning, but my knee was hurting when I woke up so I decided to rest it instead. I'm already gaining weight....blah. I know I'm going to gain weight but I seem to already be outpacing those "pregnancy weight gain by week" charts. Oh well. Here we go again.

So hard to stay motivated. Yesterday I ran 3 miles and did about 20 minutes of weights. Today I planned on going to the gym but got out of work after 8.30pm...by the time I got home it was past 9 and I was feeling nauseas from not having eaten in a few hours. Not to mention the fatigue at the end of the day. Ahh! Will try again tomorrow...it's hard working out even two days in a row. I'm feeling so flabby.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@Amelieisme: I don't actually think it's outdated-- my dr is only about 40 and very up to date about the most current research, like she was telling me about early screening tests that aren't even available yet. But I do think she is just being extra cautious. It's like with anything in pregnancy, better safe than sorry
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@nana87: It could be that they don't want you to over-exert if you aren't currently exercising a lot.
eggplant / 11408 posts
Trying to get back into this, but it's been hard! I've started by taking the stairs, and I took the pup on a walk before school this morning. That counts, right??
In all seriousness, I think once the sickness and my worry goes down some, I will try to exercise more regularly. I feel SO MUCH BETTER when I do. And I hate that I've gained a little bit of weight already. Guess that's what happens when you go from a low carb diet to one where all you can eat is carbs without getting sick
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@T.H.O.U.: it's what my dr tells everyone, it's in her print out of basic info. But she did say that if you've been doing anything regularly for the past 6 months it's fine to continue if you feel okay doing it. I got myself a heart rate monitor though just to keep an eye on it
persimmon / 1361 posts
@LovelyPlum: YES!! The carbs! Can't stop eating them and was not eating them at all pre-pregnancy, but now I can't seem to stomach anything else. And the weight is coming and its so early. Oh well. I'm also finding motivation difficult when I know I'm going to gain weight either way, why not indulge in the ice cream?
@nana87: True. Better safe than sorry. I'm biased because I don't want to believe it either since I run and I'm pretty sure my heartrate gets above 140 That's why I mentioned my info coming from internet searches
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Amelieisme: the weight Ugh. It makes me sad. I know that I'm being (mostly) healthy, but it's so hard. I figure, I will eat fruit and veggies when I can, and the rest...well, it's good that I'm eating at all. It will all come back in balance when I can eat normally (I hope!).

I've been working out the same but my diet is crap! I mean...Chinese food, burger and fries, pizza, cheese and crackers, candy,,... It's embarrassing. I haven't gained any weight yet though, likely because there are days when I can barely eat. I'm just scared of keeping this up! Someone snap me out of this!

Can I join you guys over here from the May board?! We don't have an exercise thread (yet?) but I could definitely use some added support! I just started CrossFit last month and hope to continue as long as I can...

How's everyone doing so far? I know some of us are rounding out the first trimester so is it getting easier?
My nausea is almost 100% gone but fatigue is still pretty bad. As long as I go before 2pm though I feel okay. I have tried adding an extra day of just doing the elliptical to keep up my cardio and adding a yoga class. I went to one last week but did not like it very much. I'm going to try another day and hope it works out.

I'm so nauseous and fatigued I haven't managed much more than 10 minute walks with the dog. But I'm also working full time and have a commute so I guess I should cut myself some slack. I'm hoping I can get in some longer walks this week with DH and pup!
persimmon / 1361 posts
I'm not feeling too bad...just a baseline "blah", but I still am having trouble finding motivation. I did do a light 5k yesterday (I usually run a lot further and faster) and was so out of breath! I was supposed to go to an exercise class this morning, but was so tired last night I just couldn't set my alarm so early so I slept in. So hard to find the motivation!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
I'm really proud of myself today--I got back to the gym and did 30 mins on a bike and 15 mins of strength training after, and only briefly felt nauseous during the work out!
I also got a prenatal workout dvd to do at home on days I don't have time to go to the gym--http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Sanders-Prenatal-Workout/dp/B001VC995S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379364433&sr=8-1&keywords=summer+sanders --and although I only did it once I liked it a lot. Not too hard of a workout, but better than nothing for sure! Uses a resistance band, so light strength training for the most part and lots of squats. And it has different workouts tailored for different trimesters.

@LindsayInNY: ooh! I just came over here to update-- I didn't know you got your positive!!! congrats, lady

so despite eating WAY more carbs than I normally do an not really being able to work out for about the last month from the awesome combo of fatigue and going back to work, I somehow lost a pound bt my 7th and 11th week appts!
BUT I know I need to get my butt back in gear. So I've made DH walk w me a couple times, but yesterday was my first fitness class, which wasn't that bad. Well, except for things like modified burpees and squats, bc the high-low movement made me super dizzy. But I felt good enough to do a long walk after--oohhh boy am I sore today! And slept like ROCK!

Oh, and I started a prenatal yoga once a week. Felt a little strange when we went around the room and they asked what we want to concentrate on mentally during contractions and I was with a woman who was due the day before, someone at 37 weeks, two at 34.... I just said, well, I"m almost 12 weeks and I'm just trying to get out of my first tri, haha
eggplant / 11408 posts
I'm still getting lightheaded and out of breath very easily, so I'm finding that working out is not going so well. I've tried to take walks with the pup every day or every other day, which helps, and I am also walking to and from the metro daily, which is good. Last week, I had a day where I took a 45 minute walk, and I felt great! I'm hoping to do some yoga or barre soon, because I really would like to get back in the habit of working out. But it has been really hard so far this pregnancy!
coconut / 8079 posts
@nana87: i was going to ask if anyone had tried any prenatal yoga dvds at home. glad to hear it was good. i may check it out.
@lovelyplum you are doing much better than me with the walking. i spend much of my day on my feet so some days i am just too tired out to think about walking. but i did manage a long walk on mon. & tues. evenings. it always makes me feel better though!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@jhd: it actually isn't a yoga DVD-- I thought it would be bc it ame up when I searched for "prenatal yoga DVD" but it was more like light cardio and strength training. There's some yoga in it, like child's pose, but def not strictly yoga
coconut / 8079 posts
@nana87: oh ok I think I read several posts & mixed them together in my head! Lol
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@jhd: haha, I do that too! I really thought it would be yoga, though I wasn't heartbroken that it wasn't bc I have mixed feelings about yoga in general. If you find a good yoga DVD though let me know! I feel like it'd be really good for me even though I don't love it
coconut / 8079 posts
@nana87: will let you know what I find! I haven't done a ton of yoga but right now yoga and walking just feels like my only options. I love spin & Zumba but I just don't have the energy & am scared I will get sick or dizzy.

I am hoping to get back into a good routine this week. I was super active before getting pregnant, but the sickness and fatigue has done a number on me so far.
I wear a fitbit and am working on increasing my steps. I'm back with my trainer once a week and back to my weightlifting routine twice a week. I also really like blogilates and barre classes, but I am not even going to pretend that I'll be back at 6-7 days a week working out again basically overnight.
persimmon / 1141 posts
@luckypenny: Oops I just saw this! Blogilates are workout videos on YouTube. I highly recommend them for when it's easier to stay in the house. I love Cassey (the super peppy instructor and creator of Blogilates). But she can really kick some butt. Great for abs and toning.
I was away overseas on business until a week ago. While I was there, I went running once, 5 miles, and every other day was walking around for 5-7 hours. I really thought I was going to die! When I got back, my body just crashed and I got sooo nauseas. Stayed off my feet for about 5 days and resumed running and weights last Saturday. I've been to the gym or have run outside the last 3 out of 5 days. I think I'm slowly getting my energy back but with the colder weather and shorter days, it's really hard to stay motivated!
Let's keep each other accountable. :). I've been a gym rat for as long as I can remember and it's SO strange being this inactive, but it am listening to my body....(or maybe I'm just giving into the laziness...).

How is everyone doing? I need to get a good walk in this week!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@T.H.O.U.: I raked leaves today for an hour! I was crazy tired afterwards, but it was a good bit of exercise. Also took the dog on a 20 minute walk after dinner. That's more than I've done in months! Paying for it a bit now, but it was great to get out and enjoy the weather
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@LovelyPlum: that's great!!! I love using chores as exercise!

i walked the dog twice this week with DH. monday he had to go without me b/c i was feeling so sick. i'm hoping we can get out & walk at one of our favorite spots on saturday. the weather is supposed to be super pretty!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@T.H.O.U.: @jhd: thanks! Trying to make up for my 12+ weeks of laziness, lol.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: good job, lady! Hoping Saturday is fun for you. I think we're going to try to get out and go to a park, too. Just something to be outside and moving around.
@T.H.O.U.: the real exercise will come when it starts snowing! Though we'll be almost to the third tri in the new year, so I imagine I might not be able to do as much as last year. DH will have to do it!
persimmon / 1141 posts
@LovelyPlum: I'm pretty sure I won't be exercising in the winter whatsoever even though I'm a self professed gym addict and terribly vain on top of it. It's so hard to stay motivated when it's freezing outside!
Right now I'm going to the gym twice a week and running outside once a week. I took a boot camp class two days ago (really modified the moves) and it kicked my butt. I was really sad to see how much my stamina had gone down since July.

How's everyone doing?
I have been doing yoga twice(one "regular," one prenatal class) per week and trying to keep up with my bootcamp class once per week... I've sucked at walking lately, but it just rained for over a week straight.
Anyone else find themselves getting really frustrated with not being able to do what they used to? I used to run 3-5 miles 4 or 5 times a week--which obviously I am no longer doing-- but even when I do run I am so slooooow now. And when I"m in my bootcamp class and its "go at your own pace" I get all self conscious that my slow butt is going to make everyone else run laps til I'm done. I left class in tears yesterday. I KNOW my body is working so much harder, and I'm being dumb but I"m still irrationally having a lot of trouble accepting that when I work out. Anyone else?
coconut / 8079 posts
@HazelEyes: i'm struggling with the fact that i can't even keep up with anything besides walking. i'm on my feet a lot at school so if i manage a 30 min brisk walk with the dog on top of that it's a great day. i miss spin class and zumba
ETA and i can feel myself getting out of breath walking up hills. i feel like a wimp!
