yesss hills and stairs make me feel like SUCH a wimp!
I honestly don't do that much anymore besides walking my dogs, though that's at least 30 mins/day, sometimes more like an hour. yesterday they were really lucky and got 90 mins other than that, I do a prenatal exercise dvd like 2x week, which is mostly strength training with a resistance band. I'm still not gaining any weight--I've actually lost a few pounds-- so I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. Hoping for more energy as the second tri really gets going!
eta: also, as I'm sitting here typing this, I'm procrastinating doing my video....lol, oops...

@nana87: I lost some in the first tri just because I was so sick. I have gained most of it back, which made my doc happy. I just miss having energy really! That's great you are able to fit in some strength training plus the walking!

@HazelEyes: sounds like you are doing great though to be able to do yoga & even survive boot camp class! boot camp is hard!

Haven't posted on this one in awhile... I've been pretty good about going 3x/week still to the gym and I am even packing my sneakers when we go on our vacation for the weekend!
I've only gained 4 lbs so far and I'm 17 weeks Friday. How is everyone else doing?

@luckypenny: That's awesome! You are doing great...consistency is key.
As for me, I'm slowly starting to go to the gym more, but I don't know how diligent I'll be when it gets colder out. I live in NY and it gets unbearable around Dec-Feb!
I went for a 6 mile run with hubs on Sunday. Yesterday I walked around at Target for 2 hours, and today ran 3 miles. Last week I was able to squeeze in a Body Pump class at the gym which is my favorite for toning. I'm trying to work out at least 3x a week, four on a good week. I'm up around 5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight but I'm okay with gaining. I think I need to gain a bit more to ensure healthy fat stores for breast feeding and overall fetal health (I was around 15-20lbs underweight with low body fat percentage pre-pregnancy, and I really want to try EBF). It's weird to see my body expand but at the same time it's so fascinating to me!
I hope everyone else is slowly starting to regain their energy!

@SupernovaJ: That's great! I am sticking to walking the dog for now. I miss the gym, but just don't have the energy. Or time! We are moving this week. Hoping for more time & energy soon!!!

@jhd: Walking is one of the best exercises! And if you are doing it everyday / most days walking your dog, even better.

So this is a very small victory, but I walked up three flights of stairs today! I work on the fifth floor, and I used to do the stairs multiple times a day. Lately, it has been too hard, but today I felt motivated. So I did 2nd to 5th, and I didn't pass out. Woot!

@SupernovaJ: thanks i just miss being able to do more. maybe soon or maybe i'll just have to stick with walking while pregnant if i don't get more energy. i guess there will be plenty of time for the gym after the baby comes!
@LovelyPlum yay for you! i only have to do one flight of stairs at school, but like you i'm constantly going up and down. i can't imagine being on the 5th floor!!

@LovelyPlum: stairs are big! I don't know why, but stairs are waaay harder for me than anything else--I wear a heart rate monitor when I'm working out now, and my heart rate shoots up way more from the stairs at the gym than the exercise bike!

@LovelyPlum: Stairs are hard! The most dreaded machine in the gym (for me) is the Stairmaster. Stairs are good for toning, cardio, strengthening. I hate stairs... But awesome! That's a big victory..

I'm reviving this thread to see how people are doing! Its been tough (at least for me) now that it gets dark so early and the cold weather has crept in.
BUT I've still been able to keep up with my weekly bodysculpt class--with some obvious modifications, but better than nothing-- and prenatal yoga, which isn't so much of a workout as some awesome stretching and hip openers, helpful but not really a calorie burner. My usual regular yoga class got cancelled-boo! so I'm trying to walk a bit more... but for someone who ran, walking takes suuuuch a looonng tiiiiime. And running in the cold is one thing, since you warm up so fast, but walking is just cold.
I had an appt today and I'm up 10 lbs since the beginning, with a big jump this past month, but dr said that from 20-24 weeks there is often a big growth spurt, so doing ok.
I need a kick in the pants though to combat the remaining holiday season--who else?

Well, I don't know if I would call my exercise routine a success, but we're working on it. I did prenatal yoga for the first time two weeks ago, and it was fabulous. I'm trying to walk a lot more, and I am actually really enjoying it. I'm hoping to keep this up as we get into the cold weather that December brings!
I gained a TON almost right away (15 pounds by the first trimester), but since then, the weight gain has been more normal. I'm up about 23 pounds at 22 weeks, which is more than I hoped for, but not hopeless. I'm trying to be mindful of my eating and work in more veggies and fruit. I only gained 2 pounds from three weeks ago until now, so I'm feeling good about that. Here's hoping I can keep it in control in the the third tri!

@LovelyPlum: @HazelEyes: I start my prenatal yoga class next week! Just doing it once maybe twice a week! I hope it will help with my lower back/pelvic/hip aches and pains! I'll let y'all know how it goes! I'm NOT a super flexible/graceful person... so I hope I don't make a fool out of myself!!!
I am lucky to live in an area with a super mild winter climate, where its actually perfect weather for outdoor exercise! We stay inside / live in the pool in the summers here! And I have mountains and hiking trails in my back yard, so I do a 4 mile hike 3-4 times a week. (basically 2 miles up, 2 miles down) So even though I sort of abandoned my weight training early on in pregnancy, I'm still getting good cardio and still feel healthy and strong. Maybe my arms are starting to feel a little flappy, but oh well!
I had my 20 week appointment yesterday and I'm up only 1.6 lbs from pre-preg. The baby is measuring right on track, so there are no worries. I was sure it would be more, especially after Thanksgiving! But as long as little man looks good, that's all that matters!
Keep up the good work ladies!

I'm up 10 lbs from PP. I had a bi gain at this last appointment but I think thanksgiving and being sick/unable to work out for two weeks didnt help. Now I'm back in the gym and feeling much better. Still just doing cardio barre classes 2x/week and elliptical 1-2x/week. I definitely need to eat better. Traveling makes it so hard. I had McDonald's TWICE in a week because there were really no other options. I felt so gross.

@PEAPIE: @LovelyPlum: @HazelEyes: I was just thinking about this thread & wondering how everyone was doing! I have walked every day after work this week. We moved and the park near our house has excellent paths for walking with hills which makes for a better workout. I am also able to eat more veggies now that I'm not so sick. Carbs were all I could eat in the first tri so I am up around 12 lbs. I'm ok with that and ok with not being able to go to the gym (although I miss having energy for spin class!). I'm evidently not going to be one of those peppy preggo ladies. I barely have enough energy to make it through a work day!

Exercise has been my saving grace lately. We got a new treadmill for Christmas and daily walks have been the only thing that help my achey hips. I'm not supposed to gain much weight with this baby, so I know it helps that too.
What's everyone's workout plan this week? I'll be walking, doing a weight circuit of two, and maybe going for a swim (indoor).
coconut / 8079 posts
@preggomeggo82: I'm on my feet a lot at work so all I can manage is walking. The park by our house has hills though & I try to keep up a brisk pace! I usually take the dog on a walk after I get home from work. No snow or ice in the forecast for this week so I'm hoping we can walk everyday!

how's exercising going for everyone?
i'll be 38 weeks by the end of this week and this will probably be my last week going to the gym. after this week i plan to lay low and just walk around the neighborhood. i've been able to go to the gym 2-3 times a week and will do some inclines, elliptical or super slow jogging and then switch to weights. on other days i'll do weights and light cardio at home. my doctors keep telling me to stay active even in the end when all i want to do is stay glued to the couch. the back pain is pretty bad but i'm hoping all the activity will help move the baby down.
we're almost at the end! it's been hard on some days being active but i'm also super glad i stuck with it. like others have mentioned, it's what's helped me stay sane during this pregnancy. i am really missing training hard though and can't wait to get back into when the baby is a couple of months old!

@SupernovaJ: that's great you have been able to stay so active. I miss the gym so much. I have been walking, but that's all I can manage.

@SupernovaJ: I'm very, very impressed, lady! I had to stop yoga about 5 weeks ago, because it got too hard with my hip. But, I've been doing my PT exercises, stretching, and walking the dog whenever possible. Last week, I walked to the doctor's and back, which was 3 miles. It was hard, but it did feel good! I hope that your diligence makes labor easier for you

@SupernovaJ: go you! Yeah I'm suspending my gym membership this week. It's so hard to find the motivation now. But I have DH go on long evening walks with me and DD instead so that's felt good but I will be ready to hit the ground running at 6 weeks. I've noticed since I stopped my barre class that my energy is so much lower.
persimmon / 1141 posts
@luckypenny: I hear you! The less active I am, the aches, pain and fatigue get exponentially worse. But it's just SO hard at this point.
Also suspending my gym membership this week. Sads! But I can't wait to be snuggling on the LO.
