@MrsStar: Since you said you could feel a little from the outside, I decided to try it last night and I felt a couple with my hand! Definitely too small for DH to feel yet, but getting there.
SO frustrated. My anatomy scan was scheduled with MFM for the 11th, but I'm supposed to meet with both midwives and MFM afterwards, and the midwives aren't there on that day. So now it's scheduled for the 9th and we don't meet to go over results until the 10th. I'm glad it's sooner, but now we have to wait a whole day to go over results? What if the tech looks clearly concerned, or we see something weird?! I'm going to be freaking out. I was going to look away when they scan her brain, just for fear I'd see something that looked like a hydro that wasn't, but now maybe I should look since I'll be reassured if it looks normal. I've seen enough freaking brain images to know what a bad one looks like. And on top of that DH really can't take the time off work twice, but he's going to have to. I can't go to either of those appointments alone; I'm too scared. I'm so mad they didn't schedule it right to begin with, so that we could do it all on one day!

@Torchwood: Yes that would certainly frustrate me too! Well at least youll find out a whole day earlier. Maybe you could tell yourself you get a special treat if you don't obsess over the results after the exam. That usually works for me!

@Torchwood: that's tough. Maybe have your doula come along to help keep you and dh calm and collected? It sounds like you could use all the support you can get! Hugs!

I'm so jealous of those of you who feel movement! If I've felt it so far, I still can't be sure that's what it was. I'm 15w4d now, so hopefully it's coming soon. I wonder if it will take a little longer because I have a little extra padding on my stomach.

@krispi: I've been feeling super light non-gas flutters once a day since sunday and I'm 16w2d now, so it could literally be right around the corner for you!
So, is pregnancy brain a real thing? I always found it kind of offensive, but are any of you experiencing anything? Last Friday I left out the spices in my cake recipe, earlier this week I locked myself out of the house, 2 days ago I left my keys at my job and DH had to bike to get them late at night, and today I left my wallet at home! Coincidence? Ugh!

@buttermilk: it's real! And for me, didn't get better until I weaned my son! Now it's back! Yesterday I got out some leftovers to heat up for lunch. I served myself, then put the original container in the microwave, my serving in the fridge and sat down without heating them up. Three minutes later I realized I wasn't eating and discovered my folly.

@aprild: Aww, so sorry for your LO - hope it goes away quickly.
@krispi: I'm in the same boat! I've had something that could *maybe* be movement, but it's just as likely that it's gas. I'm 16w4d now, so I'm hoping it starts to get more definite soon.
@buttermilk: I've kind of noticed this - I'm definitely a little more fuzzy-brained. I've been keeping a physical to-do list at work lately because things keep slipping my mind (and that's never happened before - I'm usually super on top of it!)

I'm horrible about updating here, but wanted to say I'm 13+4 today. My next appt is Mar 20 and I'm hoping I get an ultrasound then, and can maybe find out the gender - not sure. I only had the dating ultrasound so far around 9 weeks. At my last appt I did get to hear the heartbeat, which was nice, but it took a while to find which made me very nervous for a bit!
I will feel so much better once I get another ultrasound and see that all is ok. I still haven't shared on FB though - only immediate family for me and DH know

@buttermilk: The other day I tried to put the immersion blender in the freezer, and only realized what I was doing because I couldn't figure out which shelf it went on (everything in my kitchen has a "place"). I think it's totally a thing. My stepmom put water in her cereal instead of milk once, and put the milk in the cupboard more than once!

@lulibee: You'll be almost 17 weeks then, right? Crossing my fingers you get to find out the sex then too!

@buttermilk: with DS, I locked my keys in the car RUNNING, accidentally caught on fire and didn't notice, and locked my keys a second time.

@buttermilk: Pregnancy brain is real! Mine didn't get bad until around 20 weeks with my first pregnancy but I was doing things like having showers with my clothes on, put groceries away in random places and had to put dh in charge of paying by card because I could never remember my PIN number.
So far it just seems my brain and mouth aren't connected, I know what I want to say but I can never say it properly. Also forgetting simple words is now common for me!

@buttermilk: Definitely real! Not my proudest moment, but a few nights ago, I locked myself out of my car with my 15 month old inside. Thank goodness I was in my parents driveway and it was a warm night, but dang. He smiled and waved at me and then fell asleep while I was freaking out.
I also can't remember any of my students' names. Sometimes I go through five names before I finally get it right. Today I actually looked at a couple of them and was like "who are you?!" At least they're only 5 and don't care... They think I'm being silly haha

Holy wow ya'll. I thought I was doing better on the being tired all the time, but I got "only" 8 hours of sleep last night and I feel like I'm going to pass out any second. And I'm actually off progesterone for the first time, so I ought to be even less sleepy. I have no idea how my DH and his coworkers are surviving right now working 18 hour days every day. One of them is pregnant too, and only a month ahead of me. I would be in tears every morning when I had to get up, literally.

@buttermilk: He's an "implementation consultant." Normally they do tax software for state and local governments, with a few international projects (so they write the software the government uses to process your taxes). This project is actually DMV, so the software that processes all of TN's licensing. Normally they would never work this much. Long hours yes, but not like this. But some things went wrong during rollout apparently, and if they don't fix them asap it's a big deal. As in, there could be mass arrests of every person who gets pulled over, because when the cops run the licenses they show invalid because something's wrong with the data. That won't happen, or rather, it would have if it was going to, but that's the level of huge we're talking about so they HAVE to get it fixed. Thankfully none of it is DH's fault specifically (as far as I know it's not really anyone's fault), so there's no job risk or anything. It just sucks. The system they were replacing is 39 years old, so it's a difficult conversion.

@buttermilk: I haven't noticed any pregnancy brain yet but I'm sure it will come. My biggest issue with my first pregnancy wasn't so much pregnancy brain as it was pregnancy clumsiness. I don't even know how many times I fell while I was pregnant. Luckily I never hurt myself. On top of the falls I was also like a bull in a china shop. I remember one specific trip to Walgreens where I pretty much left a trail of merchandise on the floor everywhere I went. I kept knocking everything I came close to over and was too pregnant to bother bending down to pick the stuff up off the floor. Not my proudest moment. No clumsiness so far this pregnancy!

@Mrs.Scientist: lol that's so cute to picture. well fingers crossed you avoid it this time!
@Torchwood: that sounds intense! Super interesting, and I bet you'll both be very glad when it dies down again!

DH placed another Amazon order today. (And exclamation is out again. Pretend that was enthusiastic.) I'm kind of sad because he said he got the carseat, and I was happy about that, but he got the wrong one. And for some reason the right one is way WAY more on Amazon (and not prime eligible, I think it's coming from a different seller instead of direct from Chicco), so I can't just switch it. And he had picked the color he thought I'd like best, for really sweet reasons, but it isn't available in the one we're actually getting. It will have to come from BRU, so we're waiting. BUT he got a bunch of other stuff I'm excited about. Some practical, like the diaper pail and liners (he found fox liners, and again, pretend that's enthusiastic), and some totally not like little cupcake bloomers. Very happy overall. He's so weird in how he doesn't want to spend money the vast majority of the time, then he just gets something in his head and drops a ton, but I always love when he does. Can't wait for it to get here ETA- Oh, and he got the Boba wrap, which I'm SO excited about. I was worried he would balk at some of the prices on carriers, especially since we have a SSC already.

What are everyone's thoughts on cord blood banking? Second time mamas, did you do this for your first? Why or why not? I am looking into it and it looks like the pros and cons are pretty equal... Public banking isn't an option at the hospital I plan to deliver at, as far as what I can tell on the website. I will look into it more though.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

@Mrs. Microscope: I'm planning on not doing it. We'll do delayed cord clamping, and you usually can't do both. I've also read that the odds of it actually being something that's needed don't outweigh the benefits of delayed clamping and the cost of banking. We might donate anything left if that's an option.

@Torchwood: very cool. I need to go through my stash and see what I want to reuse for this baby, and what needs to be replaced.

@Mrs. Microscope: I didn't find the potential benefits to be proven enough (or guaranteed really) to be worth the $$.

@OhCaptain: I'm nervous because in all my years of child care, CDing is one of the only things I've never done, but I'm excited too!

@raspberries: Yep, will almost be 17 weeks then. I really hope I get to find out, especially since so many people seem to be doing these tests where they are finding out so early on

I'm at the stage where I will eat, and even if it's not a huge amount, I feel like my stomach is gonna explode. I feel full for hours and hours (like 6 hrs) then all of a sudden my hunger hits and I'm starving.
And I hate it because I literally look like I'm gonna give birth every time I eat...I get SO uncomfortably full!
Anyone else feeling this way?
kiwi / 696 posts
@Torchwood: it's one of those things that sounds more complicated than it is!
clementine / 911 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: My hospital has a cord blood donation program. I'm much more likely to do that than to pay for private banking.
@lulibee: Nope, you are definitely not the only one!
cherry / 211 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: Didn't do it for my first and won't be doing it for this one either. Likelihood of needing it is not worth the $$, IMO.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@kjpugs: @Mrs. Microscope: I agree and we won be cord blood banking.
@Mrs. J: @OhCaptain: @torchwood: we are also planning to cloth diaper - using gdiapers!

@lulibee: I'm the same way - my tummy is massive after pretty much every meal.

@Torchwood: we CD part-time. Can't use them at day care. What kind are you planning to use? We're currently using bumgenius 4.0. Love them now but we didn't start using them (even though I had planned on it) until my son was around 8 months old. I felt too overwhelmed when he was a newborn to worry about figuring out cloth diapering! This time I'm hoping to start right from the get-go since bringing how a newborn won't be quite as much of a shock.
pear / 1788 posts
@buttermilk: @Mrs. J: @kjpugs: that's what I am thinking. I kinda feel like a sucker for getting bullied by scare tactics into having second thoughts. I would totally do public banking like @krispi: if it was not possible to delay cors clamping and it was offered at my hospital.
kiwi / 696 posts
@buttermilk: I have a few g-diapers, but I couldn't ever get a good fit on my super chunky baby (he was way chubby until he started crawling) but I love their disposable liners, even in my other pocket diapers for days that you'll be out and about and don't want to carry around wet inserts all day.
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: half of my stash is bumgenius 4.0s. I started using them around 2 months, I didn't use cloth in the newborn phase and probably won't this time either unless I can borrow them from a friend or find a cheap deal on a lot. The other half of my stash is fuzzibunz, and I have a few random: g-diapers, one grovia, and a few china cheapies. I need/want to replace some with best bottoms!
