@aprild: I had GD, so they were going to induce at 39 weeks. He was estimated to be pretty big and I've had some previous abdominal surgeries that could make emergency c-sections dangerous. That combined with the chance of a failed induction made me decide to schedule a c-section. He ended up being 8lb 13oz at 39w 1d and he was so stuck that they had to vacuum him out during surgery. Needless to say, I probably would have had a c-section anyway. I'm a petite person and my OB said I have a narrow pelvis.
Honestly, I loved my c-section and recovery was not bad at all. I'd be completely fine having another because I know what to expect and I know some people feel "cheated" out of a certain birth experience (which is totally valid!), but I don't feel that way at all

@Dagny: Welcome! It's great to hear you had no symptoms until week 8. I'm 5 weeks with my first and I'm just sitting here waiting to feel pregnant!

@Mrs. Microscope: What a great Christmas present! It's very cool that several of you will have your ultrasounds before the holiday.
My first appointment is next week, so I don't think that will be the case for me.

@lilteacherbee: I'm glad you had a good experience! I heard that a planned C-section is a little easier to recover from than an emergency C-section, plus it's nice to be mentally prepared for it.
@Dagny: Welcome!

I have a question about blood tests taken during prenatal exams. This isn't my first pregnancy, so I've had all of these tests taken 2 years ago. My question is, if nothing has changed in my life, are all of these tests necessary? Can I refuse any of them?
I was reading online about the tests taken during the first prenatal appointment, and they include tests for STD's, chicken pox immunity, and my RH status. None of that would have changed since last time for me.

You guys I just went to the bathroom and noticed some light brown/tan CM. Bad!? That's what my spotting looks like pre AF. I'm kind of panicking. No pain, just the usual very light cramps I've been feeling off and on for a couple weeks. I'm 5w2d today.
I broke my toe last night and so I've been super upset and stressed out. Can this kind of stress cause a miscarriage!?

@aprild: I think it will depend on your provider, but it's worth a shot. My first appointment isn't until 10 weeks, and I've switched providers. I thought they would want the records from my first pregnancy, but she doesn't. Maybe because it's a CNM and not an OB, I don't know. She did want my operative report from my c-section, and that included my blood type. She asked if I was RH negative or positive (this was all during a tour consultation to see if she considers me a candidate for VBAC), so I'll be interested to see if she takes bold at my first official appointment.
On a different note....I am so exhausted! I don't remember having exhaustion like this the first time. I nanny for a three year old and two year old (and bring my two year old as well) and I could literally fall asleep amidst their yelling and rough housing.

@buttermilk: watch the spotting, and if it turns pink, call your doctor! I hope your toe feels better!

@krispi: thanks! I hope it goes well. I should be 6w5d, and my doctor says she is confident we wwill get the HB by then.

Y'all, morning sickness is no joke. Either I forgot how bad it was, or it's much worse this time!
pear / 1809 posts
@OhCaptain: It's interesting how each provider can approach the visits differently. I'm going to the same place as last time, so they should have all my information already. I think some places prefer you get all the bloodwork for liability reasons, but I hate needles, so I would like to get the bare minimum done.
@Mrs. J: Mine hasn't kicked in yet, but it was awful last time! I remember feeling nauseous all day long and vomiting at least twice a day. I'm hoping it won't be as bad this time. Hopefully, yours will go away soon!

Hi Everyone! Thought I would join in.
Location: AL
EDD: August 4
How far along: 6 weeks
First child? 2nd. I have a 10 month old
First doctor appointment: Yesterday. I had an early u/s so they could give me an EDD. I'm still nursing baby #1 and never had AF come back so didn't have a very good idea of how far along I was!
Any symptoms so far? A little bit of nausea and fatigue. I had a pretty easy pregnancy with DS so I'm hoping to repeat that.
Who have you told? Husband, mom, in-laws, and a couple good friends.
pomelo / 5132 posts
@OhCaptain: omg don't feel like a wimp! This sucks! I could barely move this morning. I dry heaved a million times, and I tried to eat an egg/bacon/cheese sandwich, and I only got two bites down before I couldn't handle it. It was Cheerios and crackers for me this morning. I was so bad that DH wanted me to take off work! Now I'm scarfing down my lunch lol.

The hunger has officially kicked in! Ate a big dinner pretty late last night, but was still starving by bedtime (10) so I ate a snack in bed. And I woke up at 6 starving again! It might be time to start keeping snacks by the bed. Last time I frequently woke up at 3am so hungry I had to get up and eat before I could go back to sleep.

@Mrs. J: mine has been concentrated to the morning and afternoon, but I literally can't open my fridge without dry heaving/vomiting. Which makes feeding my toddler decent food a little hard. Haha

@Mrs. J: ugh, I had my first moment of nausea last night. I was telling DH that I wished I felt something because I wasn't feeling particularly pregnant. Less than an hour later, I felt horrible! Guess I should be careful what I wish for! Last time, it was way worse at night than in the morning, so it seems to be following that pattern.
@Mrs.Scientist: Welcome and Congrats! Yay for more 2 under 2 mamas!

@OhCaptain: @lilteacherbee: for me, morning and night are the worst. Afternoons are safer, but not always.

So I told my boss this morning (super early, almost 6 weeks). I was in her office talking about a lot of drama regarding hiring of new teachers and she mentioned that one teacher who I've talked to a lot may not be as trustworthy as I think. Long story, but I just started this job last month, DH is also a teacher here and has been here for 3 years. Last time, he told the entire school by the time I was about 8 weeks (which made me nervous because I'd had a previous miscarriage but I wouldn't have to see those people everyday, so whatever). We've had several conversations this time about how that CANNOT happen again because I work there now and I need to tell the principal before it gets around. I ended up telling this one teacher last week because we were at a workshop together and that happened to be someone my boss mentioned. I couldn't know for sure if she already knew, but I felt like she was giving me an "out" to tell her myself, so I did. She said she didn't know already. DH has already told his BFF (also a teacher at our school) and the assistant principal because they're super close. Gah sometimes I hate that he's so social!
ANYWAYS, told my boss and it was fine. It's kinda stressful because I'm new and I'll be out the first 2 months of school, but I think it will be alright. She was happy for us and didn't seem upset at all. I'm also glad she knows because we'll both be taking some time off together for appointments and such. I definitely don't want the rest of the school to know until at least 12 weeks. This is a tiny, southern town where everyone always knows everyone else's business

@lilteacherbee: Glad it went well! And I hope you're able to keep it secret till 12 weeks like you want to!
So apparently DH got a phone call today asking him (us) to move to Trinidad in February. He said no because of the quality of medical care there (with our history we need top notch), but we could wind up going in September. Well, we've been asking to go international! We were just thinking more like New Zealand or Finland.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Mrs. J: Yep. Not so sure how I feel about that with a month old baby, but the company pays for movers that handle everything including packing, so at least that part wouldn't be bad. The company is one that requires their employees to be able to move (with a fairly large pay cut if they're not), so we always know we could get moved at any time. This project rolls out in February, so it would be highly unlikely they'd move us before that though. But we're currently living in the city we're from, so DH told them we'd rather not move unless it's international or back to Denver (where we lived the first 5 years we were married). They try to be accommodating when they can, so we'll probably be here a while. But you never know! One of his coworkers got asked on a Wednesday to move across country the following Monday! (Though in that case he was allowed to say no with no penalties.)

I just got back from my first prenatal appointment. I'm not sure why they wanted to see me so early, but I think it's standard practice for them. My practice has midwives as well as OB's, so I usually ask to see a midwife. They are friendlier and take their time with me. The midwife did a pelvic exam, so I asked her if I had a small pelvis. I was worried that was part of why I ended up with a C-section last time. She said I have an average sized pelvis that could adequately birth a baby! I was happy to hear that! She also said I would be a good candidate for a VBAC if my pregnancy stays low risk.

Hi everyone! Excited to see so many moms with LO's already here having another.
Location: Florida
EDD: August 22 by LMP but I bet it's a week earlier.
How far along: I'm guessing 4 weeks
First? 2nd. LO will be 14 months in a few days.
First appointment - January 8th
Symptoms - mostly insomnia and being crazy I'm super sick with a cough/cold so I think a lot of the telltale signs are masked.
And I've shared with a lot of my internet mom friends, and my BFF who is pregnant with her first! No family yet! Well except DH of course.
Can't believe we'll have two under two for two months!! EEEK!
Can't wait to go back and read through all of these!

Bad news for me today. I had another appointment with my doctor due to all the spotting. My hcg level is down since my last test on Friday. So I'm likely (probably) miscarrying. I guess I've been preparing myself for this since the spotting started, it was just so much. It really sucks though.
At least I did get pregnant, so I'm not infertile. I just want this to be done so I can start trying again. I really hope it doesn't take another 6 months to get pregnant again.

And I know what you mean, I keep telling myself that even if I miscarry at least I will still be relieved that I can even get pregnant after a year of ttc.
