@Torchwood: thinking of today! Hope your midwives can figure out the bh contractions!
@MrsADS: how are you doing lady? Thinking about you too!

@MrsADS: Can you get a second MFM opinion, I know it's nerve wracking as I had a similar issue last pregnancy which resolved, but I was always afraid it would come back.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Mrs. J: @Mrs. Microscope: @MrsADS: Well, the midwife I saw today (one I hadn't met before) was basically totally dismissive of all of my concerns. She was super nice, but acted like there was no reason to worry ever. And she said as long as there was no bleeding/bloody show, there was definitely no risk with the BH's. Which I feel like is just totally not true. For now I'm just going to keep an eye on things and if they get alarming, call and insist on an ultrasound or the test. I have an ultrasound already scheduled with MFM next Monday, so I'll talk to them then. They take things much more seriously (probably because they deal with high risk all the time), and they'll be able to check my cervix while I'm there. Debating calling or emailing and requesting not to see that midwife again. But knowing my luck she'll be the one who winds up delivering my baby, so it might be better to just learn to deal with her and be more insistent on things.
@MrsADS: Got my TDAP today. So far nothing but a sore arm, but I'll let you know if that changes! I have hypersensitive lymph nodes (I can always tell when I'm getting sick because they swell immediately to the point that they're clearly visible), so you'd think I'd get that if it's not that unusual.
@kitty: We'll definitely be specifying just my cousin, not her husband, and as far as I know she did the same with DH and me. Actually, one of the reasons our friend is not looking like a good option anymore is because she got divorced (which is not a bad thing in itself, but it's a lot to ask that she become a single mom if something happens to us, and combined with the other issues she's just no longer a good choice), so we're very aware that we need to take that into account when we write things up. Though if something happened to my cousin (as opposed to them splitting up), I would still consider her husband if he was willing. But we just have NO good options.

Oh, and the midwife said to call if I can't talk through the BH's. Isn't that a sign you're pretty far into labor normally? And what exactly constitutes can't talk through? BH's, for me, are usually strong enough that they make breathing a bit difficult, which makes talking harder. The worst ones are definitely going to effect my speech. But presumably that's not what she meant? I really wish I wasn't so non-confrontational and didn't have so much social anxiety, or that DH had been there. I should have gotten better information.

@Torchwood: It sounds like your midwife is saying don't worry about BH unless they aren't BH. I'd be so frustrated! I really hope you get some resolution from MFM. Any way you can move that appointment sooner?
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Ms. RV: Exactly. Not helpful! And unfortunately no, the MFM office is always fully booked way in advance.

Failed my 1 hour glucose screening! Not even remotely surprised, since I had GD last time. I was apparently 16 points above the 140 cutoff, anyone know if that's a lot? I'm tempted to just ask to skip the 3 hour and go straight to monitoring, since it wasn't a big deal last time and I hated the 3 hour. I was hoping they'd take longer to get back to me with the results though!
pear / 1955 posts
@Torchwood: Ugh, I failed my 1-hour glucose too. Maybe we'll end up being GD buddies.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@Torchwood if you are having contractions bad enough you can't talk through, in my opinion you needed to go to the hospital hours ago! What I would do the next time you get a bad round of ctx - just go to the hospital to get monitored. They will do an u/s of your cervix and see if it's anything to be worried about. Maybe it's BH but I don't think possible preterm labor is anything to mess around with. Better to be safe than sorry.
I am going back to the OB and MFM tomorrow so we'll see what they say about my contraction/PTL issues. I am having a lot of ctx and the cramping/pain with them has gotten worse - like bad menstrual cramps in my back, sometimes wrapping around to the front or in my thighs.

@Torchwood: @raspberries: oh no, sorry you failed Mine is tomorrow and I'm hoping I pass, but I'm not holding my breath since I had it last time. I failed the one-hour by only 9 points and then failed the three-hour miserably. I'm considering skipping the three-hour this time if I fail and just assume I have it. Like you @Torchwood:, mine was never a huge deal (except my big baby!) and I controlled it with diet fairly easily.

@MrsADS: Good luck tomorrow! I hope they're able to figure out what's going on and get a plan in place!!

DH is meeting tonight with some local artist about commissioning something for the nursery. On the one hand, I'm thrilled because I was really expecting this to be an area where we butted heads about how much to spend. On the other hand, I have an idea in mind for how I want the final nursery to look, and he wants this to be a surprise so I don't really get any say in it. All he said was he was going to have it go with the things on our registry. Which, duh? I feel like the fact that he thought that needed pointing out may mean he had other things in mind originally. Oh well. I'm going to focus on being happy that he's excited about it.
pear / 1788 posts
@Torchwood: tough situation! I have trouble letting go of control for things when I want them done a certain way, so I get where you are coming from. So nice that DH is thinking along the same lines for the art, but the surprise element is scary! I'm sure it will turn out great, if DH knows what you want. Maybe to try to steer him in the right direction even more than just "registry themed" you could find pictures of styles you like, and styles you HATE, and pass them along to try to narrow down the window for the type of art you get. Then cross your fingers and hope for the best! I'm sure it will complement the nursery and you will love it.

@lilteacherbee: Good luck on your glucose test today!
@Torchwood: Awww, that's so sweet... I feel like the idea of commissioning art would never occur to my DH in a thousand years, haha. Hopefully it'll turn out exactly in line with what you want!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Torchwood: yeah maybe make a Pinterest board for inspiration that he can go off of. That's sweet of your DH. That would NEVER happen in my house. Because DH would never think of it, and I would never give that kind of control to someone else! Haha. But good luck!

I am super behind on this thread because I've been so busy lately! Good luck everyone on the recent/upcoming glucose tests and @MrsADS: I hope you can figure out what in the world is going on soon. I hope it's just a scare and nothing more!
As for me, I had a routine prenatal check-up earlier this week at 28 weeks and my OB and I came up with a plan for my delivery. I ended up with a CS last time due to DS just not fitting through my pelvic bone. My OB is not super optimistic about me being successful with a VBAC attempt but she is supportive if I want to try. The plan is that we will schedule a RCS at 40 weeks and if I make it that long we will go that route. Otherwise if I go into labor on my own before 40 weeks I will try for a VBAC. Guess we will see what happens but I"m happy to have a plan now!
I think we've discussed a little in the past but what are other second time CS moms planning on doing?
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: We are basically going for the same plan! I just actually got my official section date this morning and was coming here to post when I saw this.
My doctor will not induce a previous C-section mama to limit stress on the uterus so, she gave me the option of either booking a CS on my due date or a week after. I chose a week after (my first was 9 days late) so if baby hasn't arrived by August 12th, we will have a c-section that morning which will put me 7-9 days late depending on which EDD you use.
Also requested my glucose results when I was on the phone and she said since she hadn't called me, I passed. Yay! Glad to not need to do the next step.
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: I am planning on having a sucessful VBAC at a birth center (this is me using positive language to "speak it into existence") my midwife will also not medically induce due to my previous cs, so if I don't go into labor by 10-12ish days past my EDD, I'll transfer care to the hospital and have a RCS.
My midwife has a 95% VBAC success rate so I'm hopeful, but not crazy about getting one. Babies health and safety will be first!

Well, I had my glucose test this morning and I'm waiting on results now. Also, got the TDAP vaccine and my monthly labs for my antibody issue, so I'm pretty much feeling like a pin cushion today I gained "1 lb" in the past month which makes me laugh because I had apparently gained 9 last month and I def didn't do anything different. Obviously, it was more like 5 and 5 haha. So that makes about 20lbs at 27.5 weeks which I'm good with!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: I'm going with a RCS sometime during the week before my due date (which is a Saturday). My first was a scheduled c-section due to GD, baby's size, and other medical issues of mine. He had to be vacuumed out during surgery and my OB was pretty certain he'd have been a c-section no matter what. Overall, I loved my experience (as much as you can enjoy surgery) and I don't have any regrets. Since I know what to expect, I'm just going with a RCS this time.
cherry / 211 posts
@getjazzy: Good luck on your glucose test and I'm glad to hear another CS mama has a similar plan to mine. My OB said she typically like to schedule RCS right around 40 weeks for women following a similar plan, but I may ask if I can push it a little bit past that.
@OhCaptain: a 95% VBAC success rate, that's amazing!! Do you know if she only allows patients that she feels are good candidates to try or is she supportive of almost anyone trying?
@lilteacherbee: I basically had the opposite experience to you with my first. My CS was SOOOO traumatizing and that is one reason I really want to avoid it if possible. I do think if i had been more mentally prepared for it (which I will be this time around) it would have been a much better experience. I think if my experience with the CS had been more positive I'd feel better about going with a RCS.
cherry / 211 posts
@lilteacherbee: I've had a similar experience with the weight gain recently. I was so proud of myself because at my last appt I had only gained 1 lb in a month, but then on Monday when they weighed me I had gained 6...in two weeks! I half expected it since with my first my weight ebbed and flowed like that but it was still a little hard to swallow.
pear / 1788 posts
@lilteacherbee: fingers crossed you! Funny how the weight works. 20lbs so far sounds right on track!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@OhCaptain: @Mrs.Scientist: Did either of you ask your healthcare providers about foley induction or cervidil? Neither are considered a medical induction in a sense that the uterus would be stressed as they both affect the cervix only. I have an appointment next week and plan to ask because I had a friend who had a foley induction on her vbac attempt. Would be nice to give those a shot and THEN if that doesn't work, proceed to c-section.

I did my glucose test yesterday and will get my results at my next midwife appointment. I'll be getting the vaccine for whooping cough (as well as dh) at 31 weeks since that's when it's recommended for us here. I didn't get it done with LO1 but since this bub will be born earlier on in winter I want to be as safe as possible!
And I have a cold being sick while pregnant sucks.
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: I know, her stats are impressive! But, maybe it's 95% of attempted, like women who actually are laboring at the birth center and not women who go to far post dates.
I know that, as a nurse-midwife she is probably more liberal in who she would consider a "good" candidate. I had a cs with my first due to failed induction at 40w4d. I was induced that early due to projected baby size (he was 9lb7oz) I know other providers might consider failed induction as a reason NOT to VBAC, since my body hasn't ever gone into labor naturally. The midwife was most concerned with how my uterus was cut and stitched in regards to whether or not I was a good candidate.
@getjazzy: my midwife made it sound like she wasn't really in favor of any induction techniques aside from a membrane sweep, lots of walking, and sex.

So, I had a bit of a rough day yesterday. First, I woke up super early in the morning with the worst heartburn I've ever had, and it took several hours (and a couple of doses of Tums) for it to go away.
Second, I think I've been getting Braxton Hicks off an on for a week or so now. My lower abdomen will feel tight for a little while, no pain or anything. But yesterday morning, I had constant pressure in that area, and it was contracting every couple of minutes and not letting up. I was teaching a class, so I had to go into work. Thankfully, I teach via webinar, so I was able to sit and drink fluids constantly. After the second or third bottle of water, the contractions did get better, thankfully, so I didn't have to call the doctor or anything. I wanted to try drinking water first anyway, because I figured that's what they would have suggested. I took it easy after I came home from work, and by the time I went to bed last night, I was feeling back to normal. But there was a point yesterday where I was starting to get concerned. I guess I'd gotten dehydrated or something, but I don't feel like I had been drinking any less before this started. Yesterday, I just made sure I was always sipping water, so maybe that has to be my strategy going forward.

@krispi: sounds rough! So glad you got it under control. I use hydro coach app to remind me to drink enough water through the day. I have it set to 72oz and the notifications really help keep me on track when I get busy during the day
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: @krispi: i have a hydration app too called Waterlogged. I downloaded it after my midwife told me I needed to be peeing clear all the time. I only used it a couple of days andn it helped me get into the swing of drinking about 100oz.
I'm hoping being extremely hydrated will help ward off crazy end pregnancy swelling! I didnt get it last time but with a summer baby I'm not sure it can be avoided!
persimmon / 1179 posts
Great idea with the apps ladies! I'm going to download one because especially with the warmer weather, I know I'm not getting enough water. Anyone know what the goal is for a preggo woman per day?

So, I can't believe I'm in the third tri already...aaack!
Baby boy was moving like a madman last night--I could see him going, and I almost couldn't sleep! Rib pain is definitely starting, too.
How is time flying by so quickly?!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Mrs. J: third trimester, crazy! Baby is also starting to keep me up at night with all her movement. It tickles!! She feels soooo squirmy in there. I've also had a few instances of rib pain. No lightning crotch though!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@buttermilk: haha no lightening crotch here either
I had so much rib pain with DS...he constantly had his little foot up there! Also, my ribs flared out from all my organs moving.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Mrs. J: oh no sounds painful! new symptom for me is not necessarily heartburn, but just this awful feeling of food being stuck in my throat after meals. And oh the burping!
Also...

@buttermilk: ugh, the reflux/heartburn! I totally never learn about eating too much either lol
pear / 1788 posts
@Mrs. J: @buttermilk: my ribs have definitely expanded! I hope they go back after baby arrives! Baby girl has been kicking and squirming up a storm And keeping me up at night. And my burping is back. These last couple months are going to be interesting!
cherry / 211 posts
@getjazzy: I didn't ask, but I also got the impression from my OB that she doesn't typically use any form of induction in moms who had a previous CS.
@krispi: sorry you had a bit of a rough day. I definitely have to stay nice and hydrated or the BH start coming on like crazy.
@buttermilk: @Mrs. J: ugh, the eating...I have reached the point where I am either ravenously starving or ridiculously full. There is no in between. Had the same thing with DS in the third tri as well. So not fun,.
