Not at all. At my induction at 38 weeks, they estimated she was 8lbs. The ultrasound predictors 7lb. She was born 5lb 14oz. The doctor advised the midwife to "look for another one!"

My OB practice won't give estimates for this reason---they say they aren't very accurate. At most, they will say "average" or "on the smaller side of average" or "the bigger side of average".

Since I never got a weight estimate with LO #1, I was so panicked I was growing a gigantic baby for some reason, and all they would say was, no she was looking to be the smaller side of average.

And she was born a week early at 6 lbs, 10 oz.

I can't remember the specifics but mine were totally accurate. It was done in a MFMs office though, not sure if the equipment is different / better than a standard one?

Yep. I had an ultrasound at 38 weeks and they thought he was 9 lbs. I went into labor at 39 weeks and he was 8 lbs 14 oz, so pretty close!

They said a 7 pounder. He was 8lbs. They advised my friend do a c-section because hers was supposed to be a 10lb giant based on ultrasounds and he was about 7lbs.

With DS my midwife said he was not a big baby at all, but gaussing he would weigh in at barely 7 lb and long and skinny. He was 9 days late, 7 lb 7 oz, 21" so IMO she was right on.

With DD she said she was a tiny baby as well and also thought she would be barely 7 lb. she was born on her due date and was 7 lb 3 oz, 19".

In my last birth month group, two girls were induced for having big babies, and both were under 9 lbs...but then one girl with GD did not have her C section early because they thought her baby would be "only 9 lbs" and he was 11 lbs!

So I'm surprised at all these accurate results on this thread.

I was told I was going to have a big baby. DD was 40 weeks 6 days and 9lbs 6oz and 22 inches. They sure were right!

I voted yes, but you need two options! For DS1, he was estimated at 9lbs 3 oz at 37 weeks. He came two weeks later and was 10lbs 9oz. I didn't have an ultrasound after 37 weeks but they estimated big and they were right.
For DS2, the ultrasound at 37+5 said about 7lbs 9 oz or so. He was born a couple of hours later at 7lbs 2 oz. His estimate was off because there was barely any amniotic fluid. The tech said that makes it harder to measure correctly.

Yes, I had GD, so I had monthly growth ultrasounds. He was 6lb 5oz at 33 weeks and 7lb 12oz at 36 weeks. He was born 8lb 13oz at 39 weeks.

I'm also having monthly ultrasounds this time (but no GD) and LO is measuring much smaller (almost 4lbs at 31 weeks). We'll see in August!

Pretty accurate - the ultrasound tech said she thought LO would be 8 lbs. and my OB said she thought upper 8 - 9lbs. LO was 8lbs exactly!

Yes. Dd was estimated at 5lbs at 33 weeks born at 36 at 6.4 lbs. With DS they said he was 6 lbs at 36 weeks. 2 days before he was born the said he was between 9 and 10. Born exactly 40 weeks and he was 9.8.

S was estimated to be around 8.5lbs, but was a long and skinny 7lbs 10oz.

I've always heard they overestimate so I assumed Charlie was going to be smaller than the 8+ pounds they told me. But they were right!

I got an ultrasound the day before my induction to check fluid levels, and the US tech estimated DS at 8lbs4oz - he was 8lbs5oz!

I didn't get an exact weight but based on tummy size and ultra sound they estimated small end of normal and she was 6lb 10oz.

At 37w1d he was estimated at 6 lbs 15 oz. He was born 40w4d at 6 lbs 7 oz.

No, at 36 weeks we were told she was already 6 pounds and that she should gain half a pound a week (?!) after that so we should expect a big baby. She was 6#10oz and a week late.

Ours were way off. A was 1 lb smaller than estimated and B was smaller by 2 lb. These were measurements done at maternal fetal medicine with vey sensitive equipment, but they were obviously off by a lot. We were all shocked by their small sizes! But they were twins and things were crammed up in there so I think that contributed.
