At 36 weeks I won't take anything OTC, I know stubborn. On top of constant heartburn, my chest feels raw, nose won't stop running and constant cough. So annoying! Hot showers help, but it's not like I can sit in the shower all day. Womp womp.

You poor thing I got really sick a few weeks postpartum and relied on saline spray, compresses and hot tea. I hope you feel better soon!

I got SOOOO sick, like worst cold ever when I was pregnant. I relied on hot peppermint tea, airborne & OJ. I had a cough so bad I wasn't sleeping, like falling asleep at work in the middle of the day tired (& I was a nanny, not cool!). Try to rest. It will take a while to get over it though! Feel better!

I was really stubborn about taking OTC meds while pregnant too, so I get it (like, I cried over the guilt of taking a single tylenol for a migraine. Dumb). Hot showers or a very hot towel over my face while laying down helped some, and hot tea with tons of honey. It sucks.

I just took cough drops but it didn't do much. I hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes a spoonful of honey can help with a persistent cough, it coats your throat a bit to help with the scratchy feeling. I hope you feel better soon!

Appl cider vinegar. Best sore throat remedy ever and kills bacteria in your throat. Tastes like crap but really works.

I second @autumnlove: I took TONS of cough drops. Like I slept with one in my mouth because my throat hurt so badly

@Mrs. Bee: scary! Like a tbsp? I'm afraid the nausea might get me on that one...I'll try if I can hold it down!

Boil a pot of water, take it off the burner and put your face over it.

Hot lemon water with honey. Sipping that constantly when I was sick in my last pregnancy really helped. Also, echinacea tincture (just echinacea, no other herbs -- 10 drops every 3 hours was what my midwife recommended) will help fight off whatever it is.

This happened to me too. So miserable Hot tea, lots of rest, and keeping your head elevated when you sleep.

@lawbee11: Ditto! Using the Neti Pot usually speeds up the healing process for me, and it makes me feel better.

To be very honest I am very early in my pregnancy and I am a no med person. I have literally tried everything listed above minus the apple cider vinegar. Nothing provided relief. I was coughing so hard my ribs were bruised and it hurt to just breathe. I was afraid the violent coughing was hurting the baby more than anything. I knew it was a allergy cough compounded with cold symptoms. So my OB approved robitussin DM + benadryl I had taken before. After four days my cough finally stopped. But then my daughter got sick and now I am coughing again. In total I have been coughing and sick for a month now. It's been lots of fun. Not.
Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!!

Saline nose rinse for all the fluids there and lots of water. Honey and lemon for tea. Cool mist humidifier to help with dryness in the nose and lots of rest. Hang in there! And worth going to the doctor to have your lungs listened to to make sure you don't have fluids in there. Feel better soon!

@Mrs. Bee: I'm going to have to try that! How much do you drink and do you have to warm it up or drink straight?

@erwoo: I mix a little water, 2tb apple cider vinegar, honey, and cayenne pepper and heat. It really really works!!

I'm sorry you're sick I'm no help, because I have needed meds to function. I'm 30 weeks, and my doctor approved Benadryl, Tylenol, Robitussin, or Sudafed. It got to the point where I couldn't breathe without them, so I took them. But I know that not everyone is comfortable with taking medicine.
Anyways, I hope you feel better soon!

For the apple cider vinegar, definitely mix with water like @Mrs. Bee: said. I usually do two parts water, one part vinegar because it can be harsh on your stomach. Also, I use Bragg's ACV because it's organic, raw, and unfiltered.

@Mrs. Bee: I think I'll try the vinegar today! I'm really tired of coughing!

Lots of garlic!! It totally works! I crush up a couple of cloves in a garlic press and mix with a big spoonful of honey..! Doesn't taste that bad at all and if you do it every day you should get better pretty fast
