Just went to get my first beta and feeling so anxious.
During my pregnancy in July I went for the beta 3 days after my missed period. The test came back at 42 and the nurse said I'm about two weeks along. I had bleeding and m/c the day after. Does anyone know if the pregnancy was progressing well, I should be told I'm about 4 weeks along and not 2 right?

I'm not sure exactly if I'm answering the question correctly, but in there if the nurse is counting weeks including the "non-pregnant" weeks of pregnancy, then the earliest HCG is detectable is around 3.5 weeks pregnant, so in July and now, you are more than 2 weeks pregnant if HCG is present

@Snowybreeze: Are you doing fertility treatments or being seen at a fertility clinic or something? In the infertility world, some of us have beta testing done 2 weeks after insemination. This beta test is a blood test and it is possible to know if you are pregnant or not at 2 weeks past ovulation.

Technically, at "2 weeks pregnant" many women haven't even O'd yet since where you are in your pregnancy is determined by your last menstrual period.
At the point most women find out they are pregnant (1.5-2 weeks after O), they are already technically 3.5-4 weeks (or more) along.
So if they are doing a beta, you are probably somewhere in that 3.5-4 weeks pregnant range (but I don't know when your LMP or your O or anything was to say for sure).

Yes, I understand we are really just two weeks pregnant counting from time of conception. Just wondering if my July results was already showing a low number therefore a m/c followed. Just want to brace myself for if the results are the same as July.

@Snowybreeze: I think HCG levels can greatly vary. If you check http://www.betabase.info/chart/basic/single it should give some averages of ranges at different # dpos.
I think the nurse probably mis-spoke in July and should've said you were 4 weeks along, and maybe meant 2 weeks since conception.

@Snowybreeze: Just wanted to send you lots of luck. I know it's incredibly hard not to stress yourself out over beta numbers, but try to distract yourself with other things. The waiting is the absolute hardest part when going through anything pregnancy related.

@Snowybreeze: I think your numbers from your first pregnancy probably were a little low, but not much. Usually by 14dpo doctors like to see around 100 or higher, but that does not mean that it must be that.

@Snowybreeze: I've never had a beta so I might be mis-speaking but my understanding is that it isn't so much the exact number that is important but really what matters is that whatever the number is, it is doubling in the appropriate timeframe.

@MrsJYW: I'm 19 dpo now, and according to that chart, the median is 837! i was about 19 dpo when tested in July too and it was 42. That chart, I assume is only logging pregnancies that went on to be successful? Then the lowest number documented is 24. Like you said it can vary greatly. I didn't think to ask further about the 2 weeks result in July, I was overjoyed with the news, only now am I cautious and want to know everything. I'll be sure to ask for details this time. I'm sorry about your CP last month

@Mrs. Kmm: Hm...you might be right, I've been hearing that the increase or doubling is what's important. I guess I'm just getting ahead of myself, hoping that maybe when they call me later today and tell me the beta is 60, it's already better than last time's 42!

@Bluestriped Bee: No, I am not doing fertility treatments. So the blood test can detect two weeks after ovulation, I'm in that range now. Just don't know if the nurse was telling me I was pregnant two weeks since conception or 3-4 weeks pregnant since last period.

Depending upon if the nurse was known of your conception date or if she was going off your LMP. I created this thread about the use of LMP.

@Snowybreeze: Blah...it's so hard b/c lots of pregnancy symptoms are the same as AF symptoms. I've unfortunately been there 4 times, and know how unbelievably nerve wracking it can be.

We are are new here. Wish everyone well. What were your starting beta numbers at about 11 days past a five day transfer or 15dpo? We just found out that ours is 1,640 and we get the second one done tomorrow but we wanted to see if others had the same range

@Smtfaith: For me, @19 dpo beta came back at 2882; @27 dpo beta was 38,608; @37 dpo it was 167,000; @38 dpo it was 186,000.
